IMPLEMENTATION OF TQM
INTRODUCTION:

While implementing TQM in a company,

employee involvement carries very important role.
They will come together to solve problematic areas
in the company. These pain areas are identified
together and solved. Systematic approach is to be
taken. There are several tools, which have to be
used be
the team to be work on.
THE TEAM :

Any problem or implementation possible only

by team. Team for each pain area is made. Team
leader, team members, team facilitators are
appointed. Generally not more than 6 to 7
members in a team are placed. Generally the
person from the lowest level employees are
selected.
TEAM STRUCTURE :

The formation of the team is generally done

voluntarily. The team members are very much
related to the problem area and they are
specifically the junior most employees who are
involved in day-to-day activity. The teams are
formed. Team members from different department
come together and decide the team contract.
The team contract involves deciding the
following matters :
a) Day / place / time of the meeting.
b) The style of developing the agenda.
c) Rules of conduct of the members.
d) How minutes of meeting will be made and who will make
those.
e) How the actions on he minutes of meeting will be taken
and how they will be informed to the members.
f) The team members and the team facilitators dealing the
style of decisions.
g) The process check for each meeting will be done by
facilitator, which takes important role in success of team.
h) The facilitator handles the problem of absenteeism of the
members along with the team leader.
TRAINING :

Training is the important part of implementing

TQM in any organization. It is clear that TQM is
basically related to attitude and perception. It is
essential to train each employee for awareness and
methodology of the related theory and tools. As it
is indicated, top management is to be first involved
in the training. Their complete support is going to
nature the required culture.
DECISION STYLE :

All the decisions in the company have to be made by

teams. These decisions have to be made together
by method of consensus. Such decisions get
implemented easily and in short time.
There are different styles of the decisions.
There is old style decision, which is autocratic one.
The person responsible feels he is the only one to
take the decision and others have to follow it as
instruction.
Methods of taking decision :

1. The decision has to be a firm decision.

2. Once it is taken it has to be implemented in short
time.
3. Most important is that the decision has to be sold
to those people who are involved in
implementing the same.
4. Those people should feel happy and have sense
of accomplishment after the job is done, or when
the decision is implemented.
DEVELOPMENT OF VISION AND
MISSION :

As part of implementation of the TQM all the

employees take part in developing vision and
mission of the organization. These have to be
thoroughly known and understood by all. Also
management has to device and declare one line
statement as TQM policy of company.
Implementation of total quality management will greatly help the
company in the following aspects:

1. Reduction of defects because TQM promotes

quality awareness and participation of all
members of the organization, It means quality at
the source.
2. Total quality management system leads to ease
of problem solving. Through measurements and
other techniques such as failure analysis, defects
and failures (even potential failures) can be
identified and addressed.

3. TQM also leads to continuous
improvement of processes and products.
TQM system should also improve the
efficiency of people and machine.
4. TQM leads to quality products which leads
to customer satisfaction.
5. And finally, by reducing defects and
improving machine and personnel efficiency,
TQM should lead to cost savings and
profitability improvement
STEERING COMMITTEE :
This team is called as steering committee. Generally the
members of this team are heads of the different
departments. They know the pain areas very well. They are
capable to spell out the problems, persons and practices in
the company. These persons meet and create the TQM
structure.
They formulate:
 The method to attack the problem,
 Plan the schedules and
 Monitor those plans.
SHARED LEADERSHIP:

Every employee has to b involved in the leadership.

The common goal, vision, mission, quality policy
of the company is to be formulated with every
employees thinking. That creates feeling of
belongingness .
IMPORTANCE OF MEETING:

It is believed that the matters will not go smooth

unless highly systematic approach is not taken to
call, conduct and conclude the meetings. All the
participants of meeting are important persons.
They must come and participate to use their time
properly. Experience should be used to take
decision and solve the problem.
