What is a biography?
What do you consider when you make a summary of
a biography?
A biography is an account or story of a person’s life
written by someone else.
When you make a summary of a biography, you cite
the important points such as the person’s date and
place of birth ( and death), education, achievements
(if any), work facts, and a brief overview of what
makes the person significant.
Directions: Listen as the teacher reads the
biography of An Wang.
Summarize it.

person says(words) and how he or she

Sources of information may be grouped into primary
and secondary
Primary sources include those documents or records
or physical objects written or created during the
study. They are the writer’s or author’s firsthand
evidence about an event, person, or work of art.

Secondary sources are those which are written or


produced after the original sources have been
written or created. They are considered second hand
evidence.

Palo Beach
Palo is a coastal town where the waves that
rush to the shore were music to my ears. People
live in small houses along the Red Beach facing
the Pacific Ocean, where General McArthur and
his company landed during World War II.

Flash each word for the pupils to read aloud.
Ask: What are the words about?
Go over the words below.
Centuries conversion

Tell: These words are used in the


selection “The Beating of a Young
Heart”
What do these words mean? Centuries conversion
Which of the two means change?
Which means several hundred years?
What if these words are used in Mathematics, what will be
their meanings?
Will the meaning of the word century will be the same?
How about the word conversion?
If you use a dictionary, you will still get the meaning for the
word centuries. But with conversion, you will get a different
meaning. What is it?
Discussion about the denotation and connotation.
Guided Practice
Have the pupils identify the words that are unfamiliar to them.
Group these words on the word chart.
When you look up the meaning of these words in the dictionary,

dictionary is its denotation.
The other meaning that may be attached to it is
associated with an emotion, experience, or
culture is its connotation.
Directions: Identify the meaning of the following words based on usage.
1.In Singapore the chewing gum is prohibited by law.
a. a sticky substance from certain trees and plants used in jellies, pastes,
and other products
b. a chewable candy usually sweet and flavored

Review about compound sentences.


Tell: You’ve learned that a complex sentence is
made of a main clause or independent clause
and at least one dependent clause.

The two clauses are joined by subordinate


conjunctions such as after, although, as if,
before, because, who, etc.
Present these complex sentences. Find out what relationship
of the ideas is shown.
Mishkin is a Jew who
(main clause)
Who - subordinate conjunction
has lived in Jerusalem all his life. (dependent clause)

In this sentence: Mishin is afraid because the city is


surrounded by barbed wires and filled with soldiers.
Which is the main clause? The subordinate conjunction? and
the dependent clause?
Tell: sentences may be used in cause and
effect relationships.
There are words that show relationships such
as so, consequently, because, due to or that’s
why.

Writing a descriptive essay
means choosing the right and
precise words to make the
readers see a clear picture of
what is happening in your
composition.
Know the basic on writing a descriptive essay.
Prewrite.
Think of an event even most memorable to you
and the reasons why it is unforgettable.
List all the things that you experienced in that
event.
Then, group the similar details in a graphic
organizer.

Know the chart that will help you organize the ideas in
order that you can write on your own . Refer to TX p. 328
The INTRODUCTION- a descriptive statement of the
object to be discussed for paragraph 1
The BODY – consider the taste, touch, sight, sound,
smell for paragraph 2
The CONCLUSION – a summary or a restatement of the
introduction for paragraph 3.

Show images to pupils taken from videos/ television shows.


How will those images and ideas influence the viewers like the
advertisements on tv.
