INTRODUCTION

Water and cement are the most utilized material, which

required expansive amounts in construction. The production of
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) emits CO2 into the atmosphere.
One tonne of cement produces almost one tonne of CO2.The
emission of carbon-di-oxide affects the environment. Geopolymer
concrete can lead to consumption of large quantity of fly ash and
GGBS. Which apart from safe disposal of fly ash and GGBS
would also lead to reduced carbon footprint of the concrete.
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORK
The major objectives of the project work are below:
• To reduce the emission of Carbon-di-oxide by making
Geopolymer concrete with industrial waste products
• To develope geo polymer concrete mixes with different molarities
of NaOH at ambient curing.
• To study the effect of molarity of NaOH on workability property
of Geo polymer concrete
• To evaluate the durability properties of Geo polymer concrete for
different molarities of Sodium Hydroxide.
NEED FOR GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE
• Reduces the demand of OPC which leads CO2 emission.
• Utilize waste materials from industries such as fly ash,
silica-fume, GGBS.
• Protect water bodies from contamination due to fly ash
disposal.
• Conserve acres of land that would have been used for coal
combustion products disposal.
• Produce a more durable infrastructure.
GEOPOLYMER MECHANISM
GEOPOLYMER MECHANISM
• Alkaline solutions induce the Si and Al atoms in the source
materials ,example fly ash , to dissolve to form Gel.
• The Polymerisation process may be assisted by applied heat
followed by drying.
• The Geopolymer gel binds the loose coarse and fine aggregates
to form Geopolymer concrete.
