SKIN TRACTION
• Is used to control muscle spasms and to immobilize an area before
surgery.
• Accomplished by using a weight to pull on traction tape or on a foam boot
attached to the skin.
• The amount of weight applied must not exceed the tolerance of the skin.
• No more than 2 to 3.5kg (4.5 to 8lbs) of traction can be used on an
extemity.
• Types: Buck’s extension traction, Cervical head halter, pelvic belt, cotrel
traction.
COTREL TRACTION
• Uses non-adhesive type materials like: canvas, slings leathers and straps
with buckles and laces.
• Uses canvass or cloth that is applied on the patient’s skin.
• A kind of traction that uses combination of the head halter and pelvic
traction
• Used in Scoliosis.

PELVIC GIRDLE TRACTION
• Use non-adhesive type materials like: canvas, slings leathers and straps
with buckles and laces.
• Applied like a girdle and connected to two ropes with weights that hangs
at the foot part of the bed.
• Indicated for low back pain.
• For lumbo-sacracl affection, Herniated Nucleus Purposus
