HUMANISTIC PSYCHOLOGY

HUMANISTIC
PSYCHOLOGY
• known as the “THIRD FORCE” of psychology
• It adopts a holistic approach to human
existence
• the study of the whole person, and the
uniqueness of each individual
• It emphasizes an optimistic view of human
beings, as persons who have the ability to grow
(human potential)
GESTALT THEORY

• Gestalt means “pattern”


• Founded by Fritz Pearls in 1950
• Learning is explained in terms of “wholeness”
of the problem
• Where the environment is changing and the
learner is continuously reorganizing his/her
perception
Gestalt Theory

• Learning is complex and abstract


• Learners analyze the problem, discriminate
between essential and nonessential data,
and perceive relationship.
• Learners will perceive something in relation
to the whole. What or how they perceive is
related to their previous experiences.
ABRAHAM MASLOW
• Has been considered as the
Father of Humanistic
Psychology
• A psychologist who was best
known for creating Maslow’s
Hierarchy of needs
• He believed development of human potential,
dignity and worth are ultimate concern

interested in
acquiring
knowledge of
the world.

CARL ROGERS

• He is the founder of person-centered


psychotherapy, nondirective and
therapeutic learning
• He believed that cognitivism in
education was responsible for the
loss of excitement and enthusiasm in
learning.
• He established counseling procedures and methods
for facilitating learning.
