VOLCANIC ERUPTION EXPERIMENT

QUESTIONS
TO BE
ANSWERED:
1.) Based on your activity, what
happened when you poured the
vinegar into the opening of the
volcano model which is filled with
baking soda?
Answer
:- As I poured the vinegar the baking
soda mixture rise up. Baking soda
and vinegar react chemically
because one is a BASE and the
other is an ACID. Baking soda is a
Basic compound called Sodium
Bicarbonate. Vinegar is a diluted
) How the baking soda behave as it rise up from the inside?
) What do you think is the cause of the bubbles flowin
Answer:
It is the result of the chemical
reaction between the baking soda
) Why do the baking soda react with the vinegar
Answer:
- Baking soda and Vinegar react with each
other because of an acid-base reaction.
Baking soda is bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
and vinegar is an acetic acid (HCH3COO).
5.) What demonstration did
you do?
Answer:

- I demonstrated on how the volcano

erupted.
6.) What dos the mixture flowing from the
volcano denoted?
Answer:
7.) What makes the magma
rise up?
Answe
r:
-As they rise up, gas
molecules in the magma
come out of solution and
form bubbles rise they
expand.
8.) Do you think the emission of
magma will not affect the
volcano’s parts/structure?
Answer:
9.) What happens to the crater as
lava flows?
Answer
:
-In most volcanoes, the crater is
situated at the top of a mountain
formed from the erupted volcanic
deposits such as lava flows and
tephra. These volcanic explosion
craters are formed when magma rises
through water-saturated rocks, which
10.) What do you think will be
the movement of the earth if
there is volcanic eruption?
Answer
:
11.) Do you think the
eruptions of different
volcanoes are the
same? Why?
Answer:
12.) What are the different
styles of volcanic eruptions
that you know?
Answer:

-There are two predominant types of

volcanic eruptions: Effusive eruptions
-magma rises through the surface and floes
out the volcano as a viscous liquid called
lava. Explosive eruptions – magma is torn
apart as it rises and reaches the surface in
pieces known as psyrolasts.
13.) What do we call the
gases emitted from the
volcanic eruption?
Answer
:
- Magma contains dissolved gases,
which provide the driving forced that
causes most volcanic eruptions.
However, significant amounts of carbon
dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide
and hydrogen halides can also emitted
from volcanoes.
14.) How will this eruption
affect the near
environment?
Answer:

- When volcanoes erupt, they emit a

mixture of gases and particles into the
air. Some of them, such as ash and
sulphur dioxide, have a cooling effect,
because they reflect sunlight away from
the earth. Others, such as CO2, cause
warming by adding the greenhouse
