I used to rule the world Revolutionaries wait
Seas would rise when I gave the word For my head on a silver plate
Now in the morning I sleep alone Just a puppet on a lonely string
Sweep the streets I used to own Oh who would ever want to be king?

I used to roll the dice

Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Listen as the crowd would sing Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!" Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand For some reason I can't explain
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing But that was when I ruled the world
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
For some reason I can't explain Be my mirror, my sword and shield
Once you go there was never My missionaries in a foreign field
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
For some reason I can't explain
It was the wicked and wild wind I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Blew down the doors to let me in Never an honest word
Shattered windows and the sound of drums But that was when I ruled the world
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Translete Lyrics of “Viva La Vida”
“Hidup yg sangat panjang”

Saya dulu menguasai dunia *Saya mendengar lonceng Yerusalem berdering

Kaum revolusioner menunggu
Untuk kepalaku di piring perak
Hanya boneka di atas tali kesepian
Oh, siapa yang mau menjadi raja?

Saya mendengar lonceng Yerusalem berdering

Paduan suara kavaleri Romawi bernyanyi

Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza

Part 1:
"I used to rule the world
The sea will rise when I give a word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the path I used to have "

In the first part of this song, we can see the lyrics of a song that is about someone
who once ruled the world, or more than mastering a big and strong country. Whatever he asks
for is always heard and is the concern of the whole world. The ruler then abruptly canceled
his authority and became an ordinary person or a lowly person in the area that he had once
mastered. From the king to the errand boy or beggar.
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza

Part 2:
"I used to roll the dice
Feel fear in the eyes of my enemy
Listen when the crowd will sing "
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

In the second part, a picture depicting his life in the lyrics of the song Viva la Vida
states that he once ruled the world and also took as playing dice in expanding his territory
to frighten his opponents. This figure has so much power that the people worship him because
he can defeat the power of the previous government.
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza
Section 3:
"One minute I hold the key
Next the wall closed to me
And I found out that my castle was standing
On the salt pillar and sand pillar "

The third part of the song's lyrics tells about who has been in power for some time has
power (key the key '), but is trapped inside his own wall and can no longer be discussed in
his territory. This figure embodies the center of his power ('fort') standing in the power of
obedient and dissident people and intelligent and ignorant. The 'pillar of salt' which was
changed to Lot's wife, which was turned into a pillar made of salt. This story is presented
in 'The Book of Genesis' which is presented about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Many
wives who did not take the angel's orders he issued saw the city of Sodom destroyed behind
it. The 'sand pillar' is referred to as the Christian reference in the Gospels, the 'Parable
of the Wise Men and Fools' or 'House on the Rock'. This parable tells the story of a fool who
builds a house out of sand and a wise man who builds a house from strong stones
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza

Section 4:
"It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become "

The fourth part of the song after this chorus tells how the figure in the lyrics
of this song reaches power in an evil and rude way. Power is achieved by destroying houses.
The people became distrusted with the figure who became in power. The figure of the ruler
becomes a tyranny because he has absolute power.
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza
Section 5:
"Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king? "

The fifth part of the lyrics tells about how a person who was once in power then
fell from power with a tragic fate. The power possessed by the figure of the ruler was
ultimately brought down through revolution. The revolution in this lyrics can refer to the
French Revolution which overthrew the French rulers.‘Head on a silver plate’ can refer to beheading
in France in the past with guillotine. Many French rulers were beheaded by guillotines during the revolution. The
term 'head on a silver plate' can also refer to the beheading event of St. John the Baptism. Herod beheaded John
the Baptism because he was asked by Salome who wanted John the Baptism's head on a silver platter. In addition,
Herod considers John the Baptism as a dangerous enemy because John the Baptism is considered to have a strong
influence among the people and can create rebellion. The ruler in the lyrics of Viva la Vida also felt like a doll
moved by a driving rope. With all the tragic fate that the ruler has, who wants to be king?
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza
Chorus 1:
"I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field "

In the chorus of the first song, the song lyrics written tell about the reign of
a ruler in the song lyrics. The ruler's figure heard 'Jerusalem Bell' which might be used by
Jewish priests. The intention of Coldplay to write these lyrics might be to remind the
Crusades in Jerusalem. Roman cavalry forces were then written as moving to wage war in the
name of religion. Roman cavalry forces seemed to sing choir (church choir) while going to
war. The mirror can refer to the image, the sword refers to power, and the shield refers to
strength. These three things become the axis of the authority figure. The figure of the ruler
of Viva la Vida conquered other regions under the pretext of religion. He is in the name of
religion in committing atrocities in order to conquer an unfamiliar area.
Meaning of Each Verse/Stanza
Chorus 2:
"For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world ”

The second part of the chorus, the figure of the ruler realizes that at some
point he admits his crime when ruling. He realized that he would not enter heaven after his
death. Saint Peter in Christianity was the main apostle, the first pope of Catholicism, then
glorified as a saint (saint). The figure of the ruler felt his name was not on the list of
people who entered heaven. The figure never said an honest word in command. The lyrics of
this song were concluded by stating that it (crime and cruelty) occurred and was carried out
at the time he ruled.

…… But that was when I ruled the world
