AUDIO LINGUAL METHOD

A. Definiton

Method for foreign language teaching which emphasized the


teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing.
B. Goals

The general goal of Audio Lingual Method (ALM) is to enable


the target language communicatively.
There are two objectives in ALM:
 Short Range : include training and listening comprehension

and accurate pronunciation


 Long Range : Develop student’s abilities are same like native

speaker
C. Advantages and disavantages

Advantages:
 Learners be able speaking the target language

communicatively
 Learners have no difficulties to understand the lesson as it is

carried out in the mother tongue


 Learners are able to give correct response directly

 Learners more concern about the combination between

behavioral psychology and linguistic.


Disadvantages
 Speaking or any kind of spontaneous creative output was
missing from the curriculum
 Students lacked an active role in the classroom
 Very little attention is paid to communication
 Process pf learning only focus in speaking
TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE

A. Definiton

Total Physical Response (TPR) is a method of teaching language


or vocabulary concepts by using physical movement to react
the verbal input
B. Goal

The purpose of TPR is to create a brain link between speech


and action to boost language and vocabulary learning
C. Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:
 Students enjoying moving around the classroom

 Not preparing long hours before the lesson

 Effective for both adult and young learners

Disadvantages:
 Best suitable for beginner

 Challenging for shy students

 Rude and inappropriate language of the learner
