Comparative Degree I

We use comparison when we want to


compare things, people or time
(kita menggunakan tingkat perbandingan bila kita ingin
membandingkan benda, orang, atau waktu)
Comparative Degree I
3 Macam Tingkat Perbandingan :

• Perbandingan bentuk dasar (Positive Degree)


2 benda yang sama sifatnya
• Perbandingan bentuk lebih (Comparative Degree)
2 benda yang berbeda sifatnya / waktunya
• Perbandingan bentuk paling (Superlative Degree)
1 benda dengan benda benda yang lain membandingkan sifatnya/waktunya
Positive Degree
kata sifat yang digunakan untuk manyatakan bahwa suatu
benda atau orang dalam keadaan sama dengan yang lainnya

S1 + verb/ to be + as + adjective + as + S2
Ex :
• Hendy is tall as his uncle
( Hendy sama tinggi dengan pamannya )

• Najlia works as diligent as Rania


( Njlia kerja sama rajinnya dengan Rania )
Comparative Degree
Digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa keadaan suatu benda atau
orang lebih dari yang lainnya

S1/time + verb/to be + comparative + S2


Ex :
• Widia is taller than Rani
( Widia lebih tinggi daripada Rani )
• Rani is more beautiful than Widia
( Rani lebih cantik daripada Widia )

2 cara mengubah sebuah kata dari bentuk dasar menjadi bentuk lebih :
1. Menambah akhiran –er
2. Menambah kata “more”
Superlative Degree
Digunakan untuk menyatakan bahwa suatu benda atau orang adalah
paling/ter…. Dibandingkan lainnya

S + Verb/to be + the superlative


Ex :
• Jono is the tallest
• Elsey is the most beautiful

2 cara mengubah “bentuk dasar”


menjadi “bentuk paling” :
1. Menambahkan akhiran “est”
2. Menambahkan kata “most”
Comparative Degree II

S1 + verb/to be + the same + (noun)+as + S2


Ex :
• My house is as high as his house
• My house is the same height as his house
My house and his house are the same height

• His father is as old as my father


• His father is the same age as my father
His father and my father are the same age

Far – Near Distance
Heavy – Light Weight
Tall – Short Height
Cold - Hot Temperature
Big / large – Small ……..?

S1 + to be not + as + adjective + as + S2

Ex :
• Agya is not expensive as jazz
• Today is not as hot as yesterday
• English is not difficult as Statistics
Difference and Compared To
Ex :
• Arabic is different from English
• Arabic is more difficult than English

• Our college is different from his college


• Our college is better than his college
