RESEARCHERS
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
– The Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) curriculum is a special
science-based section mainly focusing on the academic field of Science, Math,
English, and other academic add-ons for Junior High School from Grade 7 to
Grade 10. The core subjects offered in the Secondary Education Curriculum
(SEC) and under the K to 12 BEC were enhanced by additional subjects
identified in the Revised Curriculum of the Engineering and Science Education
Program (ESEP) of the S & T-Oriented High Schools. The subject offerings, time
allotment and unit credits stipulated in DepED Order No. 41, S. 2004 and
DepED Order no. 31, S. 2012 were strictly implemented.
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
– In many schools offering the Program, add-on subjects in Science and
Mathematics were offered on top of the requirements of the core
curriculum and the special curricular program in science and technology.
– The exam will evaluate the knowledge in three major subjects; Science,
Mathematics and English and the interview for verbal efficiency or
literacy. The aptitude test determines the top 40 students who are
officially enrolled in the Science, Technology and Engineering (STE)
Curriculum.
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
– Nowadays, students are familiar with the use of computers and gadgets. Computers
are various ways such as encoding and etc. Technology has aided people with the
workload using computers and gadgets. People have adapted the use of technology
particularly by students and teachers.
– The computerized aptitude examination test is easy-to-use for the STE examinees
whom are computer oriented. The computerized aptitude test is an initial step to
assist the STE Curriculum to adapt to technology. This computerized examination test
will be an advantage for STE students and teachers. Using a computer hands down in
checking the results of the examination and for the computer program to
automatically compute the examination scores of the qualifiers.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives that the study “School-Based Aptitude Test for Qualifying
Students in the Science, Technology and Engineering (STE) Curriculum in
Catarman National High School” wants to fulfill are;

1. The study aims to make the process of qualifying students in the


curriculum more convenient for teachers and coordinator/s.
2. The study wants to achieve a program that works properly when it
comes in computing the aptitude test of students who are qualifying for
the STE Curriculum.
3. The study aims to provide efficient, reliable and satisfactory results
by using the program.
4. The study aims to create an efficient computerized aptitude test
which includes the three subjects; Science, Mathematics and English.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Problems the study “Aptitude Test for Qualifying Students in the STE Curriculum
in Catarman National High School” may encounter are:

1. 1. Will the researchers achieve a program that works properly when


computing the aptitude test results of the possible passers of the STE
curriculum?
2. 2. Will the study be able to make the process of qualifying students in
the curriculum more convenient for the teachers and coordinator/s?
3. Will the study be able to provide efficient, reliable and satisfactory
results by using the program?
4. Will the researches be able to create an efficient computerized
aptitude test that includes the three subjects; Science, Math and English?
SCOPE AND
LIMITATION
– The study covers the passing system of the Science Technology and Engineering (STE)
Curriculum, it involves the process of continuous testing, recording and calculating the data
whether the student is qualified to be a part of the Science Technology and Engineering
curriculum based on the results. The aptitude test is comprises of an interview and
examination that covers the subject; Science, Mathematics and English.
– However, the aptitude test is only limited to the exam process thus the interview phase is
excluded, the very goal of the study is solely for creating and developing a computerized test.
This study is only exclusive to the Science Technology and Engineering of the school—
Catarman National High School and the questions of the interview and exam will only be
produced by the researchers or teachers because of privacy measures coming from the
Regional and National Committee.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
STUDY
– The study aims to conveniently identify who are the qualified students to be part
a of Catarman National High School’s Science, Technology and Engineering (STE)
curriculum. This may stand as evidence of the qualification of a student since it
contains the results of the qualifying exam/aptitude test.
– The importance of this study is to help teachers and coordinators with the help of
technology in qualifying students by creating an efficient program that processes
and calculates the student’s aptitude examination result and get reliable results
that indicate if a student is qualified to enter the curriculum. It is also a way for
students to interact with technology since the curriculum encourages that vision.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
TERM MEANING
Aptitude Test an aptitude test is a systematic means of testing a job candidate's abilities to perform specific
tasks and react to a range of different situations. The tests each have a standardized method of
administration and scoring, with the results quantified and compared with all other test takers.
Curriculum the subjects comprising a course of study in a school or college.
Exclusive restricted or limited to the person, group, or area concerned. Only available by a certain group or
authority.
Qualified officially recognized as being trained to perform a particular job; certified.
Top Students a top student is someone who can inspire his/her peers to do the right thing. A top student is
someone who is willing to stand up for another student. A top student is someone who is
dedicated to helping other students no matter how busy they are. They possess these qualities
on top of achieving high marks in school.
Program a series of coded software instructions to control the operation of a computer or other machine.
Efficient (especially of a system or machine) achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort
or expense.
Reliable consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted.
