Introduction

 In this project, we will show some specific configurations of square wave

generator circuit that consists of adjustable frequency and also the
amplitude of the signal. We can made this generator by using the 555
timer chip and also capacitors, potentiometers and resistors. It is a
simple use of 555 timer which is a simple chip. The square waves can be
created by 555 timer in a stable mode. The frequency and the amplitude
of output signal is verified by the potentiometers. This circuit can also
use in clock pulse based IC.

555 timer Astable Mode

 The astable mode is what most people think of when it comes to the
555 timer. Many times when you see a project with flashing LEDs, it’s
a 555 timer at work. But it has a lot of other interesting applications too.
For example, it can also generate frequencies to produce sound when
the output is connected to a speaker. It can even be used as a simple
analog to digital converter (ADC).
 In astable mode, the 555 timer acts as an oscillator that generates a
square wave. The frequency of the wave can be adjusted by changing
the values of two resistors and a capacitor connected to the chip.
Application of square wave generator

 Clock signals in digital circuits

 Sound /tone generation
 Switching pulse
 In power inverters to generate 50 Hz driving pulse to the power
transistors.
 Dual trace channel switching inside a CRO.
 In square wave to sine /triangular wave converters in function
generators.
 For checking amplifier response.
