 The First inhabitants of Jamaica were Arawaks, who
spoke Taino
 Spanish arrived to the island in 1494 with Cristóbal
Colon.
 The Spanish settlers brought the first African Slaves to
Jamaica
 the island became a British colony in 1655.
 Slaves developed their own form of “pidgin” English
 With the conquest the English brought Modern English
language and slaves from West Africa with their
different African tribal languages with them as well.
 The Dutch explored African lands with the purpose of
establishing there.
 British colonized in 1795, however the first major influx
of English speakers arrived in 1820. About 5000 British
settlers.
 In 1822 was declared English an official language.
 South Africa continued been a British colony until 1962,
when the republic of south Africa was officially
registered a politically country of the united kingdom
