Night Shift HSE

Training

AGPP PROJECT
RHI HSE Department
Night Shift HSE Training
 In this training session,
we will discuss night
shift specific risks and
safety measures.

 The stickers given at

the end of the training
must be posted on the
hard hat of you.

Question ?
What could be additional hazards
when working at night ?
Specific Night Shift Hazards

 Lack of illumination and Glare;

 Lack of supervision;
 Lack of awareness;
 Sleep disorders and increased fatigue;
 Increased error rates and accident rates;
 Adverse weather conditions; and
 Alone working
Lighting
Potential risky areas to be illuminated:
Pipe racks, Elevated Platforms and Foundations 
Potential hazards are, but not limited to:
Edge protection missing;
Any openings left unattended;
Tripping hazard i.e., structural element, cables and
similar obstacles.
Being stuck between objects during installation; and
Being hit by moving equipment/suspended load.

Excavations Potential hazards are, but not limited to:

Collapse of sides;
Being hit by moving equipment or vehicles;
Being underneath the suspended load;
Falling on protruding rebar;
Being stuck between objects;
Falling inside excavated areas and etc.
Lighting
Mobile equipment and People interface  Potential
hazards are, but not limited to :
Collisionrisk;
Open holes, pits & excavations in a close proximity;
Blind points;
Pedestrian traffic;
Back maneuvers.

Temporary Platforms Potential risks are during

scaffolding works are, but not limited to:
Fall
from height; and
Material falling;

Working with aerial lifts Potential risks are, but not

limited to:
Machinery/equipment roll-over;
Poor ground conditions / excavations nearby;
Inadequate maintenance; and
Lighting
Welding and cutting works Potential hazards are, but
not limited to :
Combustible material accumulation;
Flammable tent usage;
Electrical safety risks;
Wooden planks;
Presence of hazardous atmosphere.
Workshops Potential risks are, but not limited to:
Pipe/ steel structure collapse;
Line of fire;
Improper material stacking;
Inadequate ventilation;
Overhead crane operations ‘Suspended Load’
Loading & Unloading works Potential risks are, but
not limited to:
Being stuck or hit by suspended load;
Hand injuries; and
Foot injuries
Lighting
Means of access/ egress Potential risks are, but not
limited to:
Failure in identification of access/egress points;
Fall from height; and
Slip and trip while climbing up and down;

Lay down or pre-assembly areas Potential risks

are, but not limited to:
Line of fire zones;
Poor communication among work crew;
Suspended load;
Poor ground conditions
Pipes/steel structures on saddles;

If illumination is inadequate, the work place will be more

hazardous than it is.
Lighting
All above mentioned risks can be managed with
required control measures. For sure,
adequate illumination
is the first thing we must pay attention

during night shift.

NO ILLUMINATION NO WORK…
Lighting
*Lighting plan which will be attached to PTW area
specific.
Sample of Lighting Plan
Supervision
Prior to start any night shift works:
Plan the job;
Communicate the risks;
Verify all safety measures are taken properly; and

Provide adequate SUPERVISION.

Alone working is not

permitted additionally.
PPE
High visible
vests to be
worn

Dark glasses
should not be worn
for a clear vision.
Use safety glasses
white
Barricades
Red-white barricade tape
requires authorization to
enter the area

Yellow-black barricade tape

indicates you are to use caution
when approaching or entering
the area

Yellow tape used for radiography works

Night Shift Driving
Pay attention to the following:
 Avoid exceeding speed limits 20km/h;

 Use your seat belt;

 Keep driving vehicles light on ;

 Ensure construction machineries have

blink light operational;
 Ensure reverse alarms are operational;

 Stay on control for reverse maneuvers

Flag for day shift

Torch light for
usage
night shift works
Night Shift Driving
Drug and Alcohol

Working under the influence of drug and

alcohol is strictly forbidden
Alcohol test will be conducted daily to:
 Operators, drivers and man-lift users;

 After an incident and if there is a

suspicious case
 Some of the personnel will be subject to
alcohol test randomly.
Drug and Alcohol

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY

if you are caught, you will be terminated from the project

 In case an emergency i.e., fire, injury or situation
requiring rescue, do not be panic and inform the loca
of the emergency CALL:

(+7 914 567 22 02)&(+7 924 146 20 00)

The numbers are accessible for 24 hours
Muster Points
 In case of any emergency requires evacuation from the
area under impact, move to a place of safety ‘MUSTER
POINT’& stay in safe zone unless all clear notice is
given
Work Authorization Process
Permit to Work (PTW)
PTW mainly categorized as follows:
 Cold works; and
 Hot works;

Complementary PTW obtained based on the work:

 Excavation;
 Critical & Heavy lifting;
 Confined Space;
 Electrical works;
 Handling of dangerous chemicals;
 Pressure tests;
 Equivalent.
Night Shift Checklist
To be filled and ensured all actions taken as
required. For instance:
 Illumination adequate;
 Supervision adequate;
 The area barricaded and proper access
available;
 Workplace clean & tidy;
 Fire extinguishers

checked and
available;
 PTW/ JSA in place; and
 Equivalent.
STARRT Card/Daily

Verification
STARRT briefing, with participation of the workers, will
be completed. Risks and precautions will be explained
and verified using STARRT card prior to start. Make
sure you participate and record your attendance
