TWO SYSTEM OF

MEASUREMENT
1. ENGLISH SYSTEM
2. METRIC SYSTEM
METRIC SYSTEM
A system of measurement in
which the basic units are the
meter, the second, and the
kilogram. In this system, the
ratios between units of
measurement are multiples
of ten.
The metric system provides a
universal language for
measurement that can be
understood regardless of
where you are from or what
language you speak.
The United States, however, has
not completely embraced the
metric system, and so many
items in the U.S. are still
measured in English units, which
are sometimes also called British
units.
The English system

is defined as the
measurement system
used in many countries
including the United
States using feet,
pounds and seconds.
While the metric system was
lawfully accepted for use in the
United States in 1866, the US has
not adopted the metric system
as its "official" system of
measurement. The US English
System of measurement grew
out of the manner in which
people secured measurements
using body parts and familiar
objects.
Why Convert
Lengths into
Metric and
English Units?
There is no 'right' system, so it
is useful to know both systems,
and to know how to convert
measurements of one type into
the other.

So how do we convert from metric

into English, and English into metric?
