KIRKBY

Kirkby is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of

the Knowsley, Merseyside, north – east of Liverpool
but in North West England.
In my  town there lots of houses, primary and
secondary schools, a railway station and shopping
centre.
Buying and selling things is called trade.
There are also things, such as bananas or oranges, that are hard to grow in the UK and we have
to buy these things from abroad. This is called import.
Import into the United Kingdom:
- gems, precious metal
- Vehicles
- Mineral fuels including oil
- pharmaceuticals
Sometimes countries need experts from abroad such as engineers, scientists or teachers. These
experts can sell their services to people around the world and this is called a service industry. The
service industry is the UK's main industry today and we import more goods than we export.
Export of the United Kingdom:
- Cars
- Packaged medicaments
- Crude petroleum
- Gold
- Gas turbines
Farm Shops can be small shops on a farm offering fresh home grown meat and produce from the
farm, to massive out of town shops with no farm attached. One massive advantage to farm shops is
there’s no middle man, no elaborate packaging - just fresh food, directly from the field to fork.
Farm in Kirkby
In Kirkby there are many farms that offer a
range of products that are home grown on the
farm. The small family run farm shop grows its
own fruit and vegetables and sells them fresh.
Customers can also pick up potatoes, eggs,
bread, jam, pickles, biscuits and cakes from the
shop.
Free range hens provide us with delicious
eggs which are on sale in the farm shop.
The farm produce our own free range beef,
pork and lamb which is sold cut, packed and
frozen in the farm shop. It also comes with a
guarantee that it has been raised to the highest
standard of animal welfare.
