What is intelligence ?

• Intelligence has been defined in many different ways to include the
capacity for logic, understanding, self-awareness, learning, emotional
knowledge, reasoning, planning, creativity, and problem solving.
According to psychology .
• A typical dictionary definition of intelligence is “the capacity to
acquire and apply knowledge.” Intelligence includes the ability to
benefit from past experience, act purposefully, solve problems, and
adapt to new situations. Intelligence can also be defined as “the
ability that intelligence tests measure.”
How intelligence can be measured?
• The intelligence quotient (IQ) is a measure of intelligence that is
adjusted for age. The Wechsler Adult lntelligence Scale (WAIS) is the
most widely used IQ test for adults. Brain volume, speed of neural
transmission, and working memory capacity are related to IQ.
Can we really measure intelligence?
• According to the general consensus, the answer is "no." An IQ
test measures a person's cognitive ability compared to the population
at large. The average IQ is 100, anything above 130 is considered
exceptionally smart while a score under 70 is categorized as
developmental delays related to intelligence.
