Listening Skill

 INTRODUCTION

• J.Rubin (1994) told in his study that English

listening is an important language skill and its
development is a key factor for language learners.
In this mini-research, we want to find out
about what is the most effective way to
improve listening skills in English in several
categories of choices, including;
(1) Listening to a song,
(2) Watching a film/video,
(3) Listening to lecturer explenation,
(4) Communicating with friends, and
(5) Listening to exercice (e.g; TOEFL
question).
METHOD
Including:
 CONTEXT

• ­Take 50 participants from English Language

Education Department Students in 5th and 3rd
Semester.
INSTRUMENT
• What is the most effective
way to improve listening
skills in English? Choose one
from the option below!
• use questionnaire to a) Listening to a song
b) Watching a film/video
collect the data. c) Listening to lecturer
explanation
d) Communicating with friends
e) Listening to exercise (e.g:
TOEFL question)

• To analyze this study, the writers using microsoft

excel to know the most dominant and the answer
who not dominant

DISCUSSION
Listening to a song
• In this mini-research, listening to a song was the most
dominant way to improve listening skill.
• It is not a bored activity.
• The listener could listen the new vocabulary or some word
from that song.
• The listenener can listen the song everywhere.
• Listening to song is favorite activity, even in English or Bahasa.
Listening to excercise(TOEFL)
• Get used to answer TOEFL test.
• The right way to improve listening skill.
• But,
• Listening to excercise like TOEFL, make the student bored.
• Make the student uncomfortable to listen
• The language in the TOEFL test is too academic.
Listening to lecturer explanation
• Student did not choose this way because if the lecturer explain
the content of the study it prefer to understanding of the
material
• Eventhough, in listening study lecturer still used TOEFL way to
improving the sudent’s listening skill
CONCLUSION
• The conclusion of this study, listening to a song is the most
effective way to improve listening skill. There are many reason
such as listening song is favourite activitythat cannot make the
student bored and also can add a new vocabulary from the
lyrics of the song.
• Beside that, listening lecturer is not dominant because
sometimes the student get bored and the language from that
test is too academic.
