Metro Manila is the seat of Government
Metro Manila, otherwise known as National Capital Region, Is the
center of Luzon and the capital region of the Philippines, unlike the
others the Philippine region , NCR does not have any province. It is
composed of cities namely the city of itself.
Metro Manila is composed of almost all the cultural groups of the
Philippines. The primary language used is Tagalog with English as
the secondary language.

CALOOCAN CITY
Called as “ The only divided city in the Philippnes”
•Southern Caloocan City lies directly north of the city
of Manila and is bounded by Malabon City and
Valenzuela City to the North, Navotas to the west,
and Quezon City to the east;
•Northern Caloocan City lies to the east of
Valenzuela City, north of Quezon City, and south of
San Jose Del Monte City in the province of Bulacan.
2nd largest city in Metro Manila
Is the country’s third most population city
Caloocan is the country’s 3rd most populations city
Caloocan comes from the tagalog root word “ lo-ok” kalook-lookan or kaloob-
looban mean “ inner most area”.
It was the center of activities for the Katipunan, the secret militant society that
launched the Philippine revolution during the Spanish occupation of the
Philippines.
1765 Caloocan was found by the Augustinian priest
February 16, 1962 Caloocan was proclaimed as city.

 Salt center of Metro Manila
 Is also known as one of the cleanest cities Metro Manila and has also
recently achieved a status of the “ Most Competitive City”
 Is famous for its bamboo organ
 February 12, 1997 Pres. Fidel V. Ramos signed the bill which elevate
Las Pinas from municipality into city.
 March 26, 1997 Las Pinas became the 10th city of Metro Manila.
•Some said it is derived from the word “PINA” meaning pineapple,
since traders from the province of Cavite and Batangas shipped
their pineapples for the first to this town before the nearby
markets. Others related that it was “Las Penas” (The Rocks) evident
by the quarrying of stones and adobe which were used to
construct building s and bridges.

March 17, 2000 @ 5:02 P.M the Glorietta Mall located inside the
Ayala Center was bombed, injuring 13 persons.
The first airport was located in the city named Nielson Field now
known as the Ayala Triangle
When the 1st governor–general of the Philippines, Miguel Lopez de
Legaspi , explored a swamp near the Pasig River, he asked for the
name of the place, because of the language barrier. It was
misinterpret by the tagalog people. Pointing to the receding tide of
the Pasig River, the tagalog answered “Makati, kumakati na” literally
meaning ebbing tide.

Originally called the Town of Tambobong
May 21, 1599 was founded as a “Vista of Tondo by the Agustinian friars
June 11, 1901 Malabon was officially made a munucipality
April 21, 2001 Malabon became a City
November 7, 1975 Malabon became part of NCR

•Malabon industries include sugar refinery, patis making, cigar


making , fishing and ilang-ilang trees flower extarct production
where the distilled perfume is exported. The city is considered as the
local Venice. The city of Malabon is a place famous for its Pancit
Malabon.

Was the 1st known as Bario of Sta,Ana de Sapa which was part of
the district of Pacao
3 major colleges and universities are located in Mandaluyong
namely: Don Bosco, Technical College, Jose Rizal University, and
Rizal Technological University
1841 it was named San Felipe Neri by the spaniards in honor of
the patron Saint of Rome, it was separated from Sta. Ana de Sapa

• Legend says, that the city was named after the romances
of chieftain while LUYONG was maharlika despised by
Manda’s father.
• Another story says that the place was named from
LUYONG , a kind of tree that was abundant in the place
and from which beautifultribal couple, Manda and Luyong
. MANDA was a lovely daugther of barangay canes and
home furniture were made of.
THE CITY DERIVED ITS NAME FROM TAGALOG TERM “ MGA” MEANS MANY,
AND “ DALUY” MEANS FLOWING IN REFERENCE TO TALL GRASSES THAT GROW
IN THIS LAND MANY YEARS AGO.

MARIKINA CITY
Known the Shoe Capital of the Philippines
It is also the largest exporter of leader shoes throughout the word
December 8, 1996 municipality of Marikina became a city

•From a young lady called “ Maria Cuina ” it is said that before


the spaniards came to Marikina, a beautiful, virtuous, polite and
intelligent lade named Maria Cuina was residing the town.
•From a priest named “Mariquina ” one of the builders of the
Jesus Dela Pena chapel was a young priest named Mariquina
who was given the task of baptizing children to Christianity
because of this noble job, Marikia was in his honor.

Muntinlupa City
Known as Emerald City of the Philippines
It is the very 1st city in the Philippines to ban the use of plastic bags
and styrofoam for packaging.
Muntinlupa became synonymous with national penitentiary although
it has largely shaken-off the negative image because it is one of the most
progressive cities in the country at present.
November 7, 1975 Muntinlupa became a part of Metro Manila by
virtue of presidential decree no. 824 issued by then Pres, Ferdinand
Marcos.
January 22, 1941 the new bilibid prison, the national penitentiary
was established in the hills of Muntunlupa.

The name Muntinlupa came from at 3 versions:


•First, it’s association with the thin top soil in the area
•Second, resident purportedly replying to as question by spaniards in the 16 th
century what the name of their place was said “ Monte Sa Lupa” apparently
mistaking the question fir what card game they were play
•Third, the topoghrapical nature of the area where the term monte or mountain
was expanded to Muntinlupa or mountain land.

Navotas City
Known as Fishing Capital of the Philippines
1st class city in Metro Manila
Originally a contiguous part of Malabon and not separated from it by a body of water
June 24, 2007 Navotas became a city after a publiscited was conducted
The city occupies a narrow strip of land along the eastern shores of Manila Bay.
January 16, 1906 Navotas finally became an independent municipality with the
enactment of act No. 1442, which separated it from Malabon
August 6, 1898 Navotas joined the revolution government of Gen. Emillio Aguinaldo

The natural phenomenon seemed to be the origin of the name that


today is associated with this area. Continually referred to as “ nabutas
“ which over the time gradually evolved into “ navotas “ literally
meaning “ pierced through”

Valenzuela City
Known as Vibrant City of Discipline
119th largest city of the Philippines
Originally called Polo
February 14, 1998 converting the Municipality of Valenzuela into a
high urbanized city.

Valenzuela means “ Little Vacencia “ in Spanish and is also the surname of


Dr. Pio Valenzuela, a Filipino physician and patriot who was among the
leaders of the katipunan that started the Philippine revolution against
Spain after which the city was named.

Known as Balut Capital of the Philippines
Famous for its duck-raising
Pateros is also known for the production of red salty eggs and “ inutak” a
local rice cake.
The town is known for manufacturing “ alfombra” a locally made footwear
with a carpet like fabric on its top surface.
March 29, 1990 Pateros became one of the town in the newly created
province of Rizal.
