Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a law graduate from Stanford University who is seeking

to make a career in Journalism. Due to lack of experience and available opportunities she
decides to join “Runway Magazine” as a second assistant to Miranda Priestly (Merryl
Steep), the eccentric editor-in chief of the magazine. There is a significant change in her
personality and behavior as the movie progresses.

• Without having any specific industry experience, she was willing to walk the extra mile
to succeed in her extremely demanding job because she was high on openness.

• She was self-motivated and willing to go out of the way to accomplish all the tasks
assigned to her in the best possible manner. This indicates that she was high on self
efficacy and conscientiousness.

• Even though some tasks were considered highly unreasonable, She never showed
dissent towards them, this implies high conformity and high on agreeableness.

• Andrea is a compassionate person/team player. On being offered an opportunity to

go to Paris in place of Emily, Andrea suggests to Miranda that she chooses Emily
instead. She also expresses happiness on hearing about the promotion of Nigel.

• Andrea is high on professional loyalty- On hearing about a plan to overthrow Miranda,

She immediately rushes to intently warn Miranda.
On being unable to achieve an unrealistic task assigned to her by Miranda, She was
insulted and personally mocked by her. Andrea seeks solace in Nigel(Co-worker) who
informs her that She’s the one responsible for the current situation. He further tells her
to quit the job if she cannot withstand the pressure.

However, Andrea displays determination and tries to make a drastic change in personality
to fit the role expectations of her boss. In the process, she shifts from low to high self
monitoring. She also embraces the fashion sense which she earlier considered to be
frivolous and idiotic.

To fit the role expectation of Miranda, Andrea had to sacrifice her work life balance
which she was somehow managing before this change in her personality.

During the aforementioned change in personality, Andrea’s job identity moves from very
low to very high. (To be expanded)
