OBJECTIVE
• To introduce the TELNET application program
2
TELNET
• TELNET is an abbreviation for TErminal Network / TEletype Network
• Application layer Client-Server Protocol used on Internet and Intranet
for accessing remote computer over TCP/IP network.
• Created and launched on 1969.
• This Protocol has no built-in security measures and has serious
security issues.
• Avoided use of TELNET over public Internet due to the risk of
eavesdropping
3
• The TELNET session between the client and server is not encrypted.
Hence anyone can access the data that flows between the end points
and read the messages including the username and password used
for login to the remote machine.
• Secure Shell (SSH) is very popular Remote login application program
which overcome the problem of TELNET. It is more secure and
provides more services than TELNET.
