PLACES TO VISIT IN INDIA

 India is a vast South Asian country with diverse


terrain – from Himalayan peaks to Indian Ocean
coastline – and history reaching back 5 millennia. In
the north, Mughal Empire landmarks include Delhi’s
Red Fort complex and massive Jama Masjid
mosque, plus Agra’s iconic Taj Mahal mausoleum.
Pilgrims bathe in the Ganges in Varanasi, and
Rishikesh is a yoga centre and base for Himalayan
trekking.

Andhra Pradesh is a state bordering India’s southeastern coast. Major cultural
landmarks include Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, an ornate hilltop shrine to
Hindu’s Vishnu, in the southern part of the state. It’s visited by tens of millions
of pilgrims annually. The major northern port of Visakhapatnam has popular
beaches like Ramakrishna and Rishikonda lining the Bay of Bengal, offering
spots for swimming and surfing.

ANDHRA PRADESH
ARUNACHAL PRADESH

Arunachal Pradesh is one of the twenty-nine states of India. Located in


northeast India, it holds the most north-eastern position among the
states in the north-east region of India. Arunachal Pradesh borders the
states of Assam and Nagaland to the south, and shares international
borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and China in the
north. Itanagar is the capital of the state. Arunachal Pradesh has
territorial disputes with both the PRC and ROC due to its cultural, ethnic
and geographic proximity to Tibet.
ASSAM
Located south of the eastern Himalayas, Assam comprises the Brahmaputra Valley
and the Barak Valley along with the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts with
an area of 30,285 sq mi (78,440 km2). Assam, along with Arunachal Pradesh,
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, is one of the Seven Sister
States. Geographically, Assam and these states are connected to the rest of India
via a 22 kilometres (14 mi) strip of land in West Bengal called the Siliguri Corridor
or "Chicken's Neck". Assam shares an international border with Bhutan and
Bangladesh; and its culture, people and climate are similar to those of Southeast
Asia – comprising the elements in India’s Look East policy
 It is the 13th-largest state of India, with an area of 94,163 km2 (36,357 sq mi). The third-
largest state of India by population, it is contiguous with Uttar Pradesh to its west, Nepal
to the north, the northern part of West Bengal to the east, with Jharkhand to the south.
The Bihar plain is split by the river Ganges which flows from west to east

CHATTISGARH

It is the 10th largest state in India, with an area of


135,194 km2 (52,199 sq mi). With a population of 28
million, Chhattisgarh is the 17th most-populated state of
the nation. It is a source of electricity and steel for India,
accounting for 15% of the total steel produced in the
country
 is a state in India within the coastal region known as the
Konkan in western India. Bounded by Maharashtra to the north
and Karnataka to the east and south, the Arabian Sea forms its
western coast. It is India's smallest state by area and the fourth
smallest by population. Goa is India's richest state with a GDP
per capita two and a half times that of the country. It was
ranked the best placed state by the Eleventh Finance
Commission for its infrastructure and ranked on top for the best
quality of life in India by the National Commission on Population
based on the 12 Indicators

GOA
GUJARAT

 is a state in Western India, sometimes referred to as the "Jewel of Western India".It


has an area of 196,024 km2 (75,685 sq mi) with a coastline of 1,600 km (990 mi),
most of which lies on the Kathiawar peninsula, and a population in excess of 60
million. The state is bordered by Rajasthan to the north, Maharashtra to the south,
Madhya Pradesh to the east, and the Arabian Sea and the Pakistani province of Sindh
to the west. Its capital city is Gandhinagr, while its largest city is Ahmedabad.
Gujarat is home to the Gujarati-speaking people of India.
HARYANA

It was carved out of the former state of East Punjab on 1 November 1966
on a linguistic basis. It stands 21st in terms of its area, which is spread
about 44,212 km2 (17,070 sq mi). As of 2011 census of India, the state is
eighteenth largest by population with 25,353,081 inhabitants. The city of
Chandigarh is its capital while the NCR city of Faridabad is the most
populous city of the state.
HIMACHAL PRADESH

is a state of India located in Northern India. It is bordered by


Jammu and Kashmr on the north, Punjab and Chandigarh on
the west, Haryana on the south-west, Uttarakhand on the
south-east and by the Tibet Autonomous Region on the east.
The name was coined from Sanskrit him 'snow' and achal
'mountain', by Acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma, one of the
state's most eminent Sanskrit scholars
JAMMU AND KASHMIR

It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains, and shares borders with the states
of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. Jammu and Kashmir has an
international border with China in the north and east, and the Line of Contrl
separates it from the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-
Baltistan in the west and northwest respectively. The state has special autonomy
under Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
JHARKHAND

Jharkhand (lit. "Bushland") is a state in eastern India


carved out of the southern part of Bihar on 15 November
2000.The state shares its border with the states of Bihar to
the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west,
Odisha to the south, and West Benl to the east. It has an
area of 79,710 km2
KARNATAKA

Karnataka is a state in south western region of India. It was formed on 1


November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally
known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The capital
and largest city is Bangalore (Bengaluru). Karnataka is bordered by the
Arabian Sea and the Laccadive Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest,
Maharashtra to the north, Telangana to the northeast, Andhra Pradesh to the
east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, and Kerala to the southwest.
KERALA

historically known as Keralam, is an Indian state in South India on the Malabar


coast. It was formed on 1 November 1956 following the States Reorganisation Act
by combining Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi),
it is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tami Nadu to the east and
south, and the Lakshadweep Sea to the west. With 33,387,677 inhabitants as per
the 2011 Census, Kerala is the thirteenth-largest state by population and is divided
into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most
widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.
MADHYA PRADESH

is a state in central India. Its capital is Bhopal and the largest city is Indore.
Nicknamed the "heart of India" due to its geographical location in India, Madhya
Pradesh is the second-largest state in the country by area. With over 75 million
inhabitants, it is the fifth-largest state in India by population. It borders the states of
Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Chhattisgarh to the southeast, Maharashtra to the
south, Gujarat to the west, and Rajasthan to the northwest.
MAHARASHTRA

is a state in the western region of India and is India's third-largest state by area and is
also the world's second-most populous sub-national entity. It has over 112 million
inhabitants and its capital, Mumbai, has a population of approximately 18 million.
Nagpur is Maharashtra's second capital as well as its winter capital. Maharashtra's
business opportunities along with its potential to offer a higher standard of living
attract migrants from all over India.

Tibetan
MIZORAM

It is bounded by Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south, and Assam to the west; Burma
(Myanmar) lies to its east. The state covers an area of 22,327 square kilometres (8,621 sq mi)
and has a population of almost 3 million, including the Meitei, Kuki, Naga, and Pangal peoples,
who speak Sino-Tibetan languages. Manipur has been at the crossroads of Asian economic and
cultural exchange for more than 2,500 years.[6] It has long connected the Indian subcontinent
to Southeast Asia, enabling migration of people, cultures and religions.
NAGALAND

Nagaland is a mountainous state in northeast India, bordering


Myanmar. It's home to diverse indigenous tribes, with festivals and
markets celebrating the different tribes' culture. Its capital city of
Kohima suffered heavy fighting in World War II, commemorated by
memorials at the Kohima War Cemetery. The Nagaland State Museum
exhibits ancient weaponry, a ceremonial drum and other traditional
ODISHA

Odisha (formerly Orissa), an eastern Indian state on the Bay of Bengal, is known for
its tribal cultures and its many ancient Hindu temples. The capital, Bhubaneswar, is
home to hundreds of temples, notably the intricately-carved Mukteshvara. The
Lingaraj Temple complex, dating to the 11th century, is set around sacred
Bindusagar Lake. The Odisha State Museum is focused on the area’s history and
environment.
PUNJAB

Punjab, a state bordering Pakistan, is the heart of India’s Sikh


community. The city of Amritsar, founded in the 1570s by Sikh Guru Ram
Das, is the site of Harmandir Sahib, the holiest gurdwara (Sikh place of
worship). Known in English as the Golden Temple, and surrounded by
the Pool of Nectar, it's a major pilgrimage site. Also in Amritsar is
Durgiana Temple, a Hindu shrine famed for its engraved silver doors.
RAJASTHAN

Rajasthan is a northern Indian state bordering Pakistan. Its palaces


and forts are reminders of the many kingdoms that historically
vied for the region. In its capital, Jaipur (the "Pink City"), are the
18th-century City Palace and Hawa Mahal, a former cloister for
royal women, fronted by a 5-story pink-sandstone screen. Amer
Fort, atop a nearby hill, was built by a Rajput prince in the early
1600s.
SIKKIM

Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan,


Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a
dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain,
8,586m Kangchenjunga. Sikkim is also home to glaciers,
alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers.
Steep paths lead to hilltop Buddhist monasteries such as
Pemayangtse, which dates to the early 1700s.
TAMIL NADU
Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state, is famed for its
Dravidian-style Hindu temples. In Madurai, Meenakshi
Amman Temple has high ‘gopuram’ towers ornamented
with colourful figures. On Pamban Island,
Ramanathaswamy Temple is a pilgrimage site. The town
of Kanyakumari, at India’s southernmost tip, is the site of
ritual sunrises. Capital Chennai is known for beaches and
landmarks including 1644 colonial Fort St. George.
TELENGANA

Telangana is one of the 29 states in India, located in southern


India. Telangana has an area of 112,077 square kilometres, and a
population of 35,193,978. making it the twelfth largest state in
India, and the twelfth most populated state in India
TRIPURA

Tripura is a hilly state in northeast India, bordered on 3 sides by Bangladesh


and home to a diverse mix of tribal cultures and religious groups. In the capital
Agartala, the imposing Ujjayanta Palace is set among Mughal gardens, and
Gedu Mia’s Mosque has white marble domes and towers. South of the city,
Neermahal summer palace sits in the middle of Lake Rudrasagar and blends
Hindu and Islamic architectural styles.
UTTAR PRADESH

Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. Its city of Agra is home to the iconic
Taj Mahal monument, a colossal, domed, white-marble mausoleum honouring
the wife of 17th-century Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Nearby are the red-brick
walls of Agra Fort, a fortified palace dating to the 16th and 17th centuries.
Capital Lucknow has Muslim memorial shrines Bara Imambara and calligraphy-
adorned Chota Imambara.
UTTARAKHAND

Uttarakhand, a state in northern India crossed by the


Himalayas, is known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites.
Rishikesh, a major centre for yoga study, was made
famous by the Beatles’ 1968 visit. The city hosts the
evening Ganga Aarti, a spiritual gathering on the sacred
Ganges River. The state's forested Jim Corbett National
Park shelters Bengal tigers and other native wildlife.
WEST BENGAL

Uttarakhand, a state in northern India crossed by

Bhutan: Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ eastern edge, is known for its
monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs) and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to
steep mountains and valleys. In the High Himalayas, peaks such as 7,326m Jomolhari are popular
trekking destinations. Paro Taktsang monastery (also known as Tiger’s Nest) clings to cliffs above
the forested Paro Valley.

Nepal:
Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked central Himalayan
country in South Asia. It has a population of 26.4 million and is the 93rd largest country by area.

India has so many scenic blesses places like Kerala, Darjeeling, Goa, Kashmir, Shimla(I
