American Master of Horror


WHAT IS A WEBQUEST
According to Reference.com a webquest is “a research activity
in which students collect information, where most of the
information comes from the World Wide Web.” A webquest is
broken into sections. Students are placed in groups, with each
member of the team completing a separate task. The members
share the information they have gathered to enable the team to
complete the final project.
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Poe´s life, you just to get free your imagination to learn more about Poe´s literature; He was an American writer, poet,
editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and horror, Poe
was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective-fiction genre.

Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world, as well as in specialized fields, such as cosmology
and cryptography. Poe and his work appear throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television. A number of his homes
are dedicated museums today.
THE TASK
• You will be put into groups to research Edgar Allan Poe´s life.
• Your task is to research what Edgar Allan Poe´s life and write 2
pages about it.
• You will also make a short presentation in front of the class, and
use the different audio visual aids or use the technology
resources.
THE TASK, CONT.
The Power Point will include:
• biographical information about Poe’s life
• a timeline of major events of his life
• an essay about the cause of Poe’s death in Baltimore
THE PROCESS
• Students will be assigned to groups of 4.
• Each group will research Edgar Allan Poe´s life and answer these questions.
• 1. Why did Edgar Allan Poe become a writer?
• 2. How did Edgar Allan Poe´s wife die?
• 3. Who adopted Edgar Allan Poe?
• 4. How many poems did Edgar Allan Poe write?
• 5. What is the meaning of the poem A Dream Within A Dream by Edgar
Allan Poe?
• 6. What is the theme for 'The Black Cat' by Edgar Allan Poe?
• Students will then write a two pages paper with the information they
found.
• They will also put together a presentation to give in front of the class.
• In their presentation the students need to show imagines about Edgar Allan
Poe´s life.
PRESENTATION CRITERIA
• Each presentation must begin with a black slide.
• The first slide will have a picture of Poe and read “Biography of
Edgar Allan Poe”
• The following several slides will be the timeline.
• The essay on Poe’s death will follow the timeline.
• The Reference slide will follow the essay.
• The students be Punctual.

ESSAY
In your essay you must state what your team believes to be the cause of
death for Edgar Allan Poe. You must present at least three facts which
support this cause of death. The essay must be at least eight (8) sentences
long.
REFERENCE
You must list references (bibliography) for each material your team uses to
create your PowerPoint. These references will be listed on the penultimate
slide in your presentation. Your reference page must be done in correct MLA
format. You will find a link to help you with this in the Resources page.

EVALUATION
• Your evaluation of this project will be both on an individual
basis and as a group.

• The evaluation instrument clearly measures what students must


know and be able to do to accomplish the task.
GRADING
Grading of the project will based upon completion of the PowerPoint
presentation. Each student will be graded on his/her individual contribution to
the final product and accuracy of the information.
CONCLUSION
• Now that you finish the research based on Edgar Allan Poe's
life, you learned how was his life and the times in he lives, and
some of the events in his life that contributes to his writing
style, and the tones of writing that he uses in all of his books.

• To finalize, you learn how to make researches on internet, and


how to organize and present your information.

• I hope that you enjoyed this activity and had helped you as a
student preparing you to your next grades.
