WELCOME TO LIBRARY
Part-I
Let’s Learn
Library Language
There are many words
that tell about books and
help you understand how
a library is organized.

Let’s have a look

The cover of a book
protects the pages.
The spine of the book
holds the pages
together.
The title is the name of
the book.
The author is the
person who writes the
book.
The editor is the
person who edits the
book.
The illustrator is the
person who is responsible
for the pictures in the
book.
The company that
makes the book is
called the publisher.
The copyright date tells
the year the book was
printed.

c2002
The title page is one of
the starting pages in a
book.
It usually tells about title,
author, and the publication of
the book.
The call number is like
the book’s address. It
tells where the book
lives in the library.
The class number tells
about the shelf of
book.
Acc.no.tells about the
entries of books done
in Library Accession
Register. It contains
details of books.
The barcode is the
book’s number in the
computer. It is read
with a scanner.
Following types of
books are there in
library-
1.Text books
2.Reference books
3.General books
The books related to
syllabus are known as
Text books.
The books for
reference or
consultation are known
as Reference books.
e.g. dictionaries
encyclopedias
General books are
described as-
A fiction book is a
made up story.
Once there was a
penguin named
Pete. He lived in a
beautiful house in
the Antarctic. One
of Pete’s favorite
things to do was ski.
One day when Pete
went skiing he got
lost………
All fiction books tell a story.
Fiction books have characters,
a setting, a problem, and a
solution.
We read fiction books for fun.
A nonfiction book gives
true facts and
information.
Penguins are very
interesting animals. They
are birds but they can not
fly. They can however, swim
very well. Penguins live in
the southern half of the
world.
We read nonfiction
books to find answers
or to learn more about
something.
**There are some books in the nonfiction
section that don’t fit this rule, like fairy
tales and poetry books. These books do
not give facts and information, but they
are placed in the nonfiction section of a
library.
