SURVEYIN
G
• Surveying is the art of determining the relative positions of
points on, above or beneath the surface of the earth by means
of direct or indirect measurements of distance, direction or
elevation.
• It includes the art of establishing points by predetermined
angular and linear measurements.
• The application of surveying requires skill as well as the
knowledge of mathematics, physics, and to some extent,
astronomy.
Principles of Surveying
All the surveys that are conducted are based on two
fundamental principles. They are as follows:
1.Working from whole to part
The purpose of working from whole to part is
to localize the errors;
to control the accumulation of errors.
2.Location of a point by measurement from two points of
reference
DIFFERENT METHODS
OF SURVEY
PERFORMED
1. LEVELLING
• Levelling is the branch of surveying the object of which is:
• To find the elevations of given points to a given or assumed
datum, and
• To establish points at a given elevation or at different elevations
w.r.t. a given or assumed datum.
• Done using AUTOLEVEL and Staff
• Contours could not be found due to less difference in elevations.
2. Traversing
• TRAVERSING is a type of survey in which the framework
consists of a number of interconnected lines. The length of lines
and angles or directions are measured in the field.
Theodolite is the most precise instrument designed for the
measurement of horizontal and vertical angles and has wide
applicability in surveying such as laying off horizontal angles,
locating points on line, prolonging survey lines, determining
difference in elevation, setting out curves, etc.
3. Total station
• A total station is an electronic/optical instrument used in
modern surveying. The total station is an electronic
theodolite (transit) integrated with an electronic distance
meter (EDM), plus internal data storage and/or external
data collector.
• The Total station is designed for measuring of slant
distances, horizontal and vertical angles and elevations
in topographic and geodetic works, tachometric surveys.
CONCLUSION
• Under the guidance of Prof. Shamshad Ahmad, Prof.
Quamrul Hasan, Prof. Ziauddin Ahmad the objectives of
surveying has been achieved within 5 days of the camp
with proper formation of the report. We have also learned
about the common mistakes which arises during surveying
and tries to overcome it, as to get precised result with least
error.
