Overview
Most common design code : ACI, Eurocode
Tendon layout distribution
Design strip method : Full strip
Check SLS (Service Limit State) and ULS ( Ultimate Limit State)
Satisfy vertical load (Selfweight, Deadload, Liveload) and lateral load (Wind,
Seism)

Tendon layout
We prefer Banded – Distributed Layout
Advantage : Less intersection of tendon
Easier for installation
More suitable for long-span structure
General Design Principles of Post-Tensioning Structures
Design strips
Full width strips both directions
General Design Principles of Post-Tensioning Structures
• Deflection
• Cracking
• Vibration (if required)

General Design Principles of Post-Tensioning Structures
Deflection check
• Deflection should take into consideration any cracking in the slab
• Long term deflection should be assessed taking into consideration
creep etc.
• Long term deflection is generally 3 times instantaneous
• Most codes allow a reduction in live load 25-30%
General Design Principles of Post-Tensioning Structures
Cracking check
Apart from ACI all the other codes allow cracking in PT slabs.
In Eurocode 2
Cracks width are generally limited to 0.2mm (0.3mm is the normal allowable for reinforced
concrete)
Hypothetical stress in the section is determined.
If hypothetical stress less than limit Crack width is less than 0.2 mmI.
Otherwise, additional reinforcement is required

Vibration check
No Code specified. Using Guidance of Applied Technology Council (ATC)
Analysis based upon natural frequency of floor and excitation generally footfall
Criteria based upon susceptibility (discomfort)
General Design Principles of Post-Tensioning Structures
Following the ULS load combinations above. Rebar is added on the plan.
To intergrate vertical loads and lateral loads.
