The Muddy Volcanoes


A natural reservation of geological type on
approximately 30 ha, the Muddy Volcanoes
are located in the Curb Carpathians, in Berca,
Buzău County.
They appeared as a result of the gas eruption
from the earth, which brings out mud and
water as well.
Known in the area as pâcle, the Muddy
Volcanoes have the same structure as real
volcanoes, as inside them take place similar
processes.
THE LIVING FIRE THE LIMESTONE BLOCKS
IN
In Lopătari, Buzău County, there is an
important natural monument, The Living
Fire, a phenomenon which only appears in a BĂDILA
few other places in the world.
It is a natural phenomenon generated by
natural gases which spring out through
cracks in the earth surface and then catch fire
spontaneously, with flames of up to 50 and
even 100 cm tall. 

The limestone blocks make up a protected area of national interest, on


whose territory there are several geological structures, more than 40
rocky blocks, of different shapes and sizes, made of very old limestone
and conglomerates.

GRUNJUL

after the 15th of May.

Eagles’ lake or Bottomless Lake is situated at
an altitude of 1.420 m, in Siriu Mountains.

County.

It is a protected area, due to its terrestrial and coast ecosystems.


Bigăr Waterfall is part of the reservation and it is one of the
most beautiful in the country, also known internationally. 
CHEILE NEREI
OCHIUL BEIULUI LAKE
They are the longest keys in Romania (22km) and cross a particularly
spectacular karst area.

It is of karst origin, part of Cheile Nerei National Park, situated in Anina


Mountains. 

The green-blue water does not freeze, even in winter, due to the spring
which supplies it with water continuously.
THE DANUBE
DELTA
It is the second delta in the world and the fifth in size; it is the best
preserved in Europe; it is considered o be the third most important
ecological area in the world.

In 1991 it was included on UNESCO ‘s world heritage list.

Apart from a great number of water and terrestrial plants, here can
also be seen colonies of pelicans and cormorants, as well as huge
numbers of water birds that live here or come here to nest or to
winter.
