THE EFFECT OF

FATHERS ON CHILDRENS
DEVELOPMENT

Đurković Jovana III6

How do fathers influence children's
development?
◦ Fathers directly influence development, that is, how children learn.

◦ For example:

◦ Children with more-educated fathers tend to do better in school tests

◦ Fathers who talk more to their children have children with higher vocabularies
What is the role of a father?
◦ Children want to make their fathers proud, and an involved father promotes inner growth and
strength.
◦ When fathers are affectionate and supportive, it greatly affects a child's cognitive and social
development.
◦ Child, who has this type of father, has much better sense of well-being and self confidence.
Are fathers as important as mothers?
◦ Love and care of fathers is equally important for the health and well-being of children as mother-
love.
◦ Children are WAY better off when their relationship with their father is sensitive, secure, and
supportive as well as close, nurturing, and warm.
◦ One of the biggest problems with divorce is that when a father moves out, the father-child
relationship frequently falter.
◦ Kids who have dads that actively participate in their care and that interact with them a lot are more
likely to:
1. Be smarter and more successful in school and work.
2. Be happier.
3. Have more friends and better relationships.
4. And they are LESS likely to get into trouble.
What defines a good father?
◦ A good father makes all the difference in a child's life.
◦ He's a pillar of strength, support and discipline.
◦ His work is endless and, oftentimes, thankless. ...
◦ A good father realizes that his children are human, and that making mistakes is part of growing up.
What happens when you grow up
without a father?
◦ Growing up without a father could permanently alter the structure of the brain.
◦ Children without a father are more aggressive and angry.
◦ Children brought up only by a single mother have a higher risk of developing 'deviant behaviour',
including drug abuse, criminal activity, mental illness.
◦ Growing up in a fatherless household could have a greater impact on daughters than on sons.
◦ Children, who are facing this situction, can often feel very lonely and unhappy.
◦ They feel really sad and hurt when they see how their friends spend time with their fathers and have
a great relationship with them.
