Objectives
• Embossing is for purely decorative reason.
• To change the physical characteristics of material.
• In some cases embossing machine is used to bond two or more layers
of material.
• To produce unlimited patterns depending on rolls die.
• To reproduce the product with no variation.
• To maintain same metal thickness before and after the embossing.
Introduction
• Embossing is the method by which any element or web can be
textured by the use of pattern roll pressing against an backup roll
under controlled condition.
• To emboss an Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) material web is
deformed by preheating and pressing it with a cooled embossing roll
(pattern) to set the pattern and cool the web to retain that pattern.
• The degree of pre-heating to soften the web must be carefully
controlled so that no melting of web will take place.
Wood Plastic Composite (WPC)
• Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) material is made up of wood fiber or
wood flour and thermoplastic.
• WPC can also contain in organic filler material.
• WPC belongs to natural fiber plastic composites NFPC which may
contain pulp fiber, peanut hulls, bamboo
• In recent years WPC majorly used in flooring industry.

Process
• Hardness of backup roll plays an role in finished roller texture. If roll
is too hard a good definition of fine surface pattern might be achieved.
• The are usually either vertical where the web path enters in a
horizontal manner as shown in figure.
• Also it can be placed in horizontal manner.
• Under special conditions and for certain applications it might be
advantageous to find them disposed to particular angle.
