Untreated Bamboo
Lifespan:
o In contact with atmosphere & soil: 1-3
years.
o Under cover: 4-6 years
o Under cover and in less humid climate: 10-
15 years
Treated Bamboo
o Lifespan can be extended up to 15-20 years
even if in contact with humid atmosphere
and soil.
Causes of Short Lifespan
o When it remains in contact with water or
moisture, including flood.
o Particularly weakened if exposed to
alternating wet and drying periods, such as
in flood.
o When it is attacked or weakened by
insects, primarily borers and termites.

o When it rots due to fungal or bacterial
action.
