CE 521 – CONSTRUCTION METHOD AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

BY: ENGR. ROMEL N. VINGUA

Planning Schedule Programming

Planning – is the function of coordinating in a

logical order all the activities, persons,
machines, and materials necessary to complete
the project.

Scheduling – is the placing of the plan on a

calendar timetable and showing the allocation of
the equipment and manpower that will put the
plan into effect.

Methods of Planning:
1. Bar Chart Method
2. Critical Path Method
Planning Schedule Programming

1. Bar Chart Method

Traditional Bar Chart – shows both functions

simultaneously with the result that the answer is
too often incomplete. They show a schedule for a
plan that has been accepted without first
establishing that the plan is the most economical
plan.

separates planning & scheduling. It also clarifies
the inter-relationship between time and cost.

applications Research Center of Remington
Rand.

1. Event – is a point in time signaling the beginning or

end of one or more activities. It is the point which
denotes the completion of all preceding activities and
the beginning for all succeding depending activities

2. Dummy Activity “ Not more than one activity have the

same number” – the use of activity bthat doesn’t really
represent work (no duration and no cost)
