Initiatives taken under the EK Bharat Shrestha Bharat Scheme in Alagappa

University
1. Alagappa University has taken initiative to conduct Awareness Program on Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) Scheme during the month of April,
2020.
2. Various Activities like Quiz, Elocution and other Social activities will be conducted in Alagappa University pertaining to the theme One India Great
India Movement.
3. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club has been initiated in the University with various members actively participating in the development of cultural
exchange programme.
4. An amount of Rs. 10 Lakhs has been sanctioned from the MHRD RUSA Phase 2.0 in Alagappa University to carry out the events of EBSB.
5. It has been planned to conduct EBSB day every month and promote the awareness on importance of cultural exchange programme in India.
6. The visit of group of teachers from Alagappa University to the university in Jammu & Kashmir State has been planned during the month of April
under EBSB.
7. The visit of group of teachers from Islamic University of Science & Technology, Jammu & Kashmir State has been scheduled to visit Alagappa
University during the month of April under EBSB.
8. It is also planned to conduct Food & Culinary festival to showcase the tradition of cuisine between the state to Tamil Nadu and Jammu &
Kashmir.
9. Culture day will be conducted during the arrival of teachers from J & K state to showcase attires, dance and other traditional activities.
10. An initiative on the promotion of language of paired state is organized in Alagappa University to display the words and Phrases of Jammu &
Kashmir State.
VILLAGE EXTENSION PROGRAMME (VEP)

The Alagappa University has adopted 91 villages viz. 44 University Departments adopting one village each and 47 Affiliated Colleges adopting
one village each during the academic year 2019-2020 in Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts under the Village Extension Programme with the
objectives of creating Open Defecation-Free (ODF) villages, providing improved sanitation facilities for schools and promotion of hygiene and
cleanliness among the rural masses.
During the academic year 2019-20, around 1259 students of Alagappa University actively participated in the Village Extension Programme and
spent three days in the adopted villages during 20th – 22nd September 2019.

The students have carried out the following activities in the adopted villages:
• Creating Awareness on Open Defecation-Free (ODF) villages
• Environmental Campaign
• Swaachh Bharat Awareness Camp
• Tree Plantation & Saplings Distribution to the Villagers
• Dengu, Malaria and Chikungunya Prevention Awareness Camp
• Socio Economic and Health Survey
• Medical Camp
• Blood Donation Camp
• Cleaning Tanks, Temples and School Premises
• Nilavembu Kashayam Distribution Camp
• Yoga and art of Living Training
• English Coaching and Soft Skill Training to School Students
• Women Empowerment Training Programme
