 The case was presented to our vcc hospital with the
complaint of , Presence of swelling at ventral part of
abdomen (pimple size at the time of birth).
Reduced feed and water intake since 1 week.
Regular vaccination and deworming.
Normal feed and water intake.
 Clinical examination
Rectal temp – 104.5 deg fh
Cmm - pale
Popliteal LN – normal
Heart rate –
RR –
On palpation- swelling is soft and painful on
palpation, hernial ring felt and the ring is 2 fingers
open.
 Diagnosis

•Fluid filled intestinal loops are observed and hernial

ring was observed.
 Differential diagnosis
Abcess
Cellulitis
Haematoma
Neoplasia
 surgical protocol
Herniorraphy followed with hernioplasty using
trulene mesh.
pre – operative management
Pet was restrained properly on dorsal recumbancy and
surgical site was prepared aseptically.
Anaesthesia
 pre- anaesthetic - Xylazine @0.5mg/kg i/m as
sedative.
Dissociative anaesthetic – ketamine @ 10mg/kg i/m
Surgical site prepared Incision on the site, exposing
aseptically intestines
Guaze was inserted inside
to avoid intestinal contents Hernial ring is removed using
to slip out scizzor
Abdminal muscles sutured Trulene wire mesh fixed using
simple interrupted pattern around 4
using vicryl(2-0) by vest – corners of the mesh including part of
over-pant method muscles.
Skin is sutured using
prolene(2-0) by vertical
mattress pattern.
 Medicinal treatment
Syp.meloxicam – 15ml p/o(0.5ml BID)
Syp. Novamox-lb – 30ml p/o(0.8ml BID)
PSD
Susp. Calendula – q – 20ml
(5drops-5drops-5drops-5drops)
 Tab . Staphysagria *100 tablets
(5- 5 -5 -5)
 tab. Arnica – 6c *3o tablets
