Hebrews 1:1 – 4
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in
time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he
hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds;
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image
of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his
power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on
the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by
inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Who is That
Baby?
I. He is the Heir
of All Things.
v. 2a
“…Hath in these last days spoken unto us
by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of
all things, …”
“To say that God has
appointed Jesus heir of
all things means that
God has given
everything to his Son.”
II. He is the Creator
of the Universe.
v. 2b
“…by whom also he made the
worlds;…”
“Jesus is the agent
of creation and the
Lord of the epochs
of history.”
III. He is the Radiance
of God’s Glory.
v. 3a

“…Who being the brightness of his

glory, …”
“What sunlight
is to the sun,
Jesus is to God.”
IV. He is the Exact
Representation of
God’s Nature.
v. 3b
“…and the express image of his
person, …”
The phrase “exact representation”
comes from the Greek word charakter,
from which we get the English word
“character.”

Jesus shares in the character

of God.
He is the “radiance of God’s
glory” and the “exact
representation of his being.”
These two expressions taken
together are a powerful
statement of the Son’s full
deity.
V. He is the Sustainer
of All Things.
v. 3c
“…and upholding all things by the
word of his power, …”
Note that this is a present tense.
Even now Jesus is “sustaining” the whole universe.

All things hold together in him and for him and by him.

His power is greater than nuclear power and his force is

mightier than the mystical Force of the Star Wars movies.

His might is mightier than the might of all the mighty men on
earth.
VI. He is our
Savior.
v. 3d
“…when he had by himself purged
our sins, …”
He died once for all time. His
death on the cross was the
complete payment for our sins.
He purged us from our sins. I was
dirty … he was clean. He become
dirty … that I might be made
clean.
“This means that all
efforts at self-
reformation as a
means of salvation are
doomed to failure.”
VII. He is now seated
at God’s Right Hand.
v. 3e
“…sat down on the right hand of the
Majesty on high; …”
Who is that Baby? Let us heed the answer
of our text. He is …

1. The Heir of All Things.
2. The Creator of the Universe.
3. The Radiance of God’s Glory.
4. The Exact Representation of God’s
Nature.
5. The Sustainer of All Things.
6. Our Savior.
7. Now Seated at God’s Right Hand.
Who is that Baby? Jesus!
To the architect he is the chief cornerstone.
To the banker he is the hidden treasure.
To the baker he is the living bread.
To the builder he is the sure foundation.
To the doctor he is the great physician.
To the educator he is the master teacher.
To the farmer he is the Lord of the harvest.
To the florist he is the lily of the valley.
To the geologist he is the rock of ages.
Who is
Jesus to
you?
God bless us all!
and
MERRY
CHRISTMAS!
