Summary
The action is set in the heat of north-western
Queensland, and tells the story of a businessman,
John Condon, and his pioneer ancestors. Condon visits
his great-grandparents’ house, now a decrepit shed,
which he has read about in his great-grandfather’s
diary. Extracts from the diary describe the building
of the house, the hopes of the family, and the death
of his wife and two children. When he sees the
huge weeping fig, which his great-grandmother had,
Condon feels proud of his ancestors.
