sound.

• It is a process by which we can omitt either a vowel or a

consonant, or both.
Compression
This process functions when a given articulator is performed
in a shorter space of time.
Linking
• It is process by which speakers link words together. The most important
cases are: the use of linking –r, the phoneme –r cannot occur in syllable-final
position in RP, but when a word´s spelling suggests a final –r, and a word
beginning with a vowel follows, the usual pronunciation for RP speakers is to
pronounce with r. Another case is consonant to vowel linking- when the first
word ends with a consonant sound and the second word begins with a vowel.
