Idioms
By
Sangar O. Ibrahim
Idioms:
Idioms are fixed group of words with a
special different meaning from the meaning
of the separate words.
The Importance of Using Idioms:
Idioms are expressions that help us
describe an exact situation in a different,
more creative way.
Advantages of Using Idioms:

1- It’s easily recognized for some readers.

2- It gets an idea across quickly, in some cases, allowing us to use fewer

words and sometimes describe something well. For example: ‘See eye to

eye’ – this means agreeing with someone.

3- They can paint a picture. “Mike was nervous as a fish out of water.”
Disadvantages of Using idioms in communication:

1- All readers are not able to understand idioms with full

meaning.

2- Every time idioms do not provide the full description.

3- Idioms sometimes translate to another language incorrectly.
