The use of plastics is increasing in almost all sectors
of the economy, but the most rapid growth is in
packaging. Globally, improved economic conditions
tend to promote increased consumption and a
corresponding increase in packaging. Analysts predict
steady increases in the sales of most packaging
plastics for the foreseeable future because of the
rapid growth of new products contained mostly in
plastics or polymers.
 RATIONALE
Based on recent studies about environmental
conservation, reusing containers is one of the most
effective and inexpensive ways to reduce the
environmental impact of packaging. Some plastic
containers can be made durable enough to be refilled
and reused about 25 times before becoming too
damaged for reuse. Refilling and reusing plastic
containers directly reduces the demand for
disposable plastic.
 RATIONALE
One of the most used containers that can be
efficiently reused is the container of a shampoo or
lotions, scientifically known as Polyvinyl Chloride
(PVC) plastics. These plastics have a percentage of
the third most used plastics among the categories of
recyclable materials. Thus, the group decided to use
this material as our base product for this project. The

 Phone Holder
- A PVC shampoo/ lotion bottle turned into a holder
for charging cell phones, is a neat solution to keeping
the cord and charger in one place, preventing the
cord from dangling to the floor. The holder can be
covered in any colors or patterns desired, ensuring it
will fit in with the décor. Once completed, this holder
will keep the cellphone and cord in one, orderly
place. These holders can be very convenient for
letting your devices be charged, without it being
disturbed.

one cut on the front of the
bottle, halfway down. Only
cut out the front of the bottle
so that the back remains
intact.

the top to create an upside down “U” shape.

“U.” The hole will allow you to hang the holder
from the adapter, so consider using the

determine how much fabric you will need.

9. Apply the fabric to the bottle or holder. Wrap the holder
with the fabric using hot glue. You may need to trim away
fabric pieces as you go but wrap the back first, then bring the
fabric around to the front and join it underneath the bottle.
(Cut the fabric around the hole or opening and add more hot
glue to secure it in place.)
10. Allow the holder to dry completely before use.
