Challenge #SaveOurPlanet: 7 Days Of School

1 Volunteering

Now our school is hosting a week of environmental protection. That is why the school council of students decided
to participate in the www.globalactionnow.org site challenge. Hundreds of students attended.
The challenge is that for a month every day a new task appears on the site that students must do. At the end, the
school board evaluates the work of each student and gives a certain amount of points. Thus, playing students help the
environment.

Day 1
The first day of the holidays was easy. A short video appeared on the site in which the
masked man explained the essence of the challenge and talked about its importance. A
large number of participants were delighted with such a game. One of the students, Tom,
said he was glad to think that what he was doing would have an effect on him. He liked
to think that he could make a useful contribution to nature.

Day 2
On the morning of the second day, each participant received a letter on the
phone with the text "Every five seconds, erosion corrodes the soil with an
area of a football field. You can learn how to avoid this on the site right
now." At www.globalactionnow.org, people watched a two-hour erosion
lesson. An hour after that, everyone received an SMS with a place and time.

Everyone was expecting a little adventure, began to think what it was and look forward to the evening. In the evening, a
team of young conservationists stood on a mountainside with shovels and seedlings of trees. Three hours later, the
work was over. All very tired, but happy, went home. They knew they were doing a good thing. "It's a nice balance of
learning and working," said Jack, head of student council.

Day 3
"Everyone did a very good job yesterday. Today, a pleasant surprise awaits you." - read the inscription on the back of
the map that we found in our mailboxes on the third day. We immediately ran to look for the place marked on the
map. It turned out to be an ordinary sweet home. When we went inside, we saw a projector, many ottomans and bag
chairs. Soon we all understood. The Council of High School students welcomed us. After half an hour, we drank hot
chocolate with cookies, watched a video about global problems and talked about how to solve them. Jill, a 10th grade
student, then noticed that it was very cool, that after work we can just relax and talk. Everyone agreed with her.
Day 4
On the fourth day the organizers called our parents and asked to do a favor. Parents talked to our younger brothers and
sisters. Of course, we did not know about this. Somewhere in the afternoon, our younger brothers and sisters came up
to us and said that we should go. Little children led us to the lake. We had to teach young children to plant trees. "We
planted 25 native trees and some shrubs," Emma, one of the organizers, reported. The purpose of this day was to explain
the importance of vegetation to the younger generation.

Day 5
"A new day and a new task! Today our task is to spend the day with the families of other
participants. I'm looking forward to :)" - I quote my diary. At two in the afternoon we
gathered in nature. Fathers brought meat, mothers vegetables, children secretly brought
sweets and soda. The organizers explained how important it is to adhere to certain rules
on vacation. It is desirable to fry the meat on the grill or barbecue. You need to carefully
watch the fire and be sure to remove all garbage after a picnic. After a tasty lunch in the
nature, we put out the coals with water, taken away all the rubbish. Many families
became close and decided to stay together for the night. Children learned a lot in four
days and could tell parents. "My favorite part was the homestay," says Linda, "Families Top Players:
took us in like old friends." Day 1: Tom Hanckson
Day 2: Jack Wolker
Day 6
Day 3: Jill Rose
The sixth day began with heavy rain. But most were not ready to retreat. "Thirty of us
come out despite heavy rain," noticed Grace, the editor of our school magazine. On that Day 4: Emma Low
day, our mission was to clear the trees of ivy. Ivy robs light from trees, interferes with Day 5: Linda York
normal growth. We all got wet, but it was fun, especially when someone was falling and Day 6: Grace Rod
slipping on the mud. Day 7: Ben Kronk

Day 7
On the last day, the weather pleased us with the sun. Our last assignment was to get rid of weeds. "Our job was to
remove massive amounts of invasive Himalayan Blackberry from the ground," Ben recalls. We were very tired by the end
of the day, but it was a lot of fun. Sometimes we sang together. In between, we drank tea with sandwiches.

This week taught our students a lot and showed that even schoolchildren can contribute to improving the state of
nature. It is very important to preserve nature. Earth is our home and we must look after it. We must clean it, take care
of plants and animals, save energy and water. Make your contribution to environmental conservation! Team of Global
Action Now promises to continue to arrange such challenges. In the meantime, you can see photos of the participants of
this challenge on the Instagram hashtag #SaveOurPlanetWithGlobalActionNow.
