Introduction
• Bamboo is one of the most fast growing plants in the world.
• Easy to handle
• Bring many benefits to environment
- control soil erosion
-regulate water cycle
-capture co2
-reduces high pressure on native forest.
- sustainability aspect
Problem statement
• To Construct shed having structural members made up of bamboo so
that the whole will be a eco-friendly one.

Objectives to be achieved
1. To construct the shed of bamboo
2.To use the advanced techniques for bamboo joineries
3. improve aesthetic view

Bamboo joints with steel clamps capable of transmitting moment
Richard Moran, José J. García

• 1) proposes three new beam-column bamboo connections capable of transmitting moment.

• 2)Each joint is comprised of five thin steel clamps tightened around the culms, which are
connected with small steel angles and platens in different configurations.

• 3)Average stiffness and strength of these connections were at least 29% and 25% higher than
those reported for conventional mortar-injected bolted connections.

• 4)This study shows that clamp moment connections are a feasible alternative to improve the
structural performance and versatility of bamboo structures.

The Potential of Bamboo as Building Material in Organic Shaped buildings

By-
Esti Asih Nurdiah

• 1)This paper result shows that bamboo can be a potential building material for organic shaped
buildings and become an alternative building material other than steel and concrete.

• 2)Also it showed that how an unusable curved shaped defective bamboo can be used for enhancing
aesthetic look.

• 3)Various examples of infrastructures across the world, constructed using bamboo are mentioned in
this research paper .

Application of bamboo in a designebuild course: Lianhuadang Farm project
Jian Jiao*, Peng Tang

• 1)This project is a graduate Design-build course of the School of Architecture of Southeast University.

• 2)Students and craftsmen constructed six viewing facilities and renovated a toilet and a management building.

• 3)It explored ways of using bamboo and traditional craftsmanship by analyzing the main teaching procedures
and the key technical issues in the project.

• 4)Also study of contemporary methods to expand the construction in real environments is given.

• 5)Finally, the significance of bamboo construction for architectural design teaching was examined and
explained in the paper..

The Recent Research on Bamboo Reinforce Concrete:
(ISCEE 2016)
• Increasing bamboo reinforced concrete beam performance by .use pegs along reinforcement Some research
held in Brawijaya University Indonesia, for bamboo reinforced concrete beams.
• The research related to the effect of adding pegs along the bamboo reinforcement in order to increase the
carrying capacity of bamboo reinforced concrete beams.
• The pegs in the form of bamboo or wood pieces that attached into the reinforcement, is aimed to add the
transferred force from the bamboo into the concrete.

Test on bamboo
• Following types of test are to be carried on bamboo
1. Tension test
2. Modulus of elasticity
3. Compression test
4. Shear test
5. Pullout test
6. Water absorption test

Discussion
• This constructed shed was built for vermicomposting purpose. Also it can be a great
alternative for other type of single storey building. Some alterations can be done so to
achieve superior construction.
• Also this kind of shed can be used for industrial buildings according to accessibility.
Planning
1) Testing of bamboo and various joints.
2) Aesthetical enhancement of bamboo members.
3) Laying of foundation in excavated pits.
4) Erection of bamboo columns and trusses over it.
5) Analysis of constructed shed.
Results

3.Compression Test

4.Shear Test
• The ultimate load at failure is noted. Shear Stress is determined using formula given below from
ultimate load
• Shear stress = V = load/(2x area)
= P/(2A)

The higher strength values are obtained for center node samples. The average
shear strength of bamboo is taken as 29.12N/mm2.
5.Pullout Test
• The bond stress is determined from ultimate load using following formula.
Bond stress=zbd=

Conclusion
• This project has covered the analysis and the conceptual design of a typical bamboo based shed structure
under various loads and their combinations. The design of the various components have been carried out in
accordance with the IS codes and the experimental results.
• Further, the manual analysis has been verified with analysis using STAAD Pro. Also, the experimental tests for
the friction capacity joints have been carried out for various bamboo samples. From the results, it has been
verified that the joints designed for the structure are safe and feasible.
• The roof is supported by bamboo pitched roof structure and the columns are designed as battened bamboo
members. The proposed structure can serve multiple purposes, such as workshop for a cottage industry,
warehouse, and other medium industries.
• It is more economically viable than the arched roof structure and thus, several times cheaper and eco
friendly.
