Good Afternoon

Guys!!!
AIR
CONDITIONING
What is Air Conditioning?
• It is the process of removing heat and moisture from the interior
of an occupied space, to improve the comfort of occupants.
• This process is most commonly used to achieve a more
comfortable interior environment, typically for humans and
other animals;
• However, air conditioning also used to cool/dehumidify rooms
filled with heat-producing electronic devices, such as computer
servers, power amplifiers and even to display and store delicate
products, such as artwork.
Main Component of an Air
Conditioner
Compressor

The compressor is actually a large

electric pump that pressurizes the
refrigerant gas as part of the
process of turning it back into a
liquid.
Fan
• Using fan on air
conditioner ...an air
conditioner works by
removing the heat and
humidity from your room
and replacing it with cool
air.
Condenser Coil
(Hot)
• Condenser coil is the one of
two coils that are part of your
air conditioning or heat pump
system.
Evaporator Coil
( Cool)
• A device in a process turn liquid
form of a chemical substance such
as water into gaseous-form/vapor.
chemical
Refrigerant
• chemical refrigerants are what make
air conditioning possible.
• Contained within coils of an air
conditioner, these liquid agents cool
and dehumidify indoor air.
Types of Air
Conditioners
Central Air Conditioner

• A central air conditioner circulates cool air

through a home using a system of ducts and
registers.
• Quiet convenient to operate and more efficient
than window units.
Room Air Conditioner
• The most popular cooling system, a room air conditioner
provides spot cooling and can be either a window unit or a
potable air conditioner.
• Inexpensive way to cool a room or an addition to you home
• This type of air condition shall be provided drain pipe or plastic
tubing for discharging condensate water into a suitable container
or discharge line.
• This are installed at not less than 2.1 meters above the floor
level.
Ductless, Mini-Split
• Mounted on a wall, a ductless, mini-split air
conditioner provides zoned cooling without
the ductwork.
• Easy to install and avoids energy loss
associated with ductwork
Evaporative Cooler (Swamp Cooler)
• An evaporative cooler cools outdoor air using
evaporated water and circulates it throughout
the house.
• In addition to cooling the air, they add moisture
which can improve comfort.
Air Conditioning Applications
Comfort Applications
• Aim to provide indoor environment that remains relatively constant in
range preferred by humans despite changes in external weather
conditions or in internal heat loads.
Process Applications
• Aim to provide a suitable environment for an industrial or a
commercial process, regardless of internal heat loads and external
weather conditions. Although often in the same comfort range, it is
the requirements of the process that determines conditions, not
human preference.
REFRIGERATION
Refrigeration
• Refrigeration is a process of removing heat from a low-temperature
reservoir and transferring it to a high-temperature reservoir. The work of
heat transfer is traditionally driven by mechanical means, but can also be
driven heat, magnetism, electricity, laser, or other means.

• The effective temperature and the relative humidity of the air to be used for
comfortable cooling shall be maintained at 20˚Celcius to 24˚Celsius and 50%
to 60%, respectively, with 4.60 to 7.60 meters per minute air movement
within the living zone.
• Water evaporators, condensers and other machinery shall be properly
collected into a suitable water or drainage system.
Refrigeration
• Each refrigerating system shall be provided with a legible metal sign
permanently attached and easily noticeable, indicating thereon the
name of manufacturer or installer, kind and total number of
kilograms of refrigerant contained in the system and applied field
test pressure applied.
• In refrigerating plants of more than 45 kilograms, refrigerant, masks
and helmet shall be used. These shall be kept in a suitable cabinet
outside the machine room when not in use.
• In a refrigerating system containing more than 9 kilograms, stop
valves shall be installed in inlets and outlet compressors, outlet
liquid receivers, and in the liquid and suction branch headers.
Types of Refrigeration Systems

Mechanical-
Compression
Refrigeration System
o The most widely used
refrigeration cycle method
, this has applications in
both air conditioning and
commercial and industrial
refrigeration.
Absorption
Refrigeration System
oThese systems rely on the
process of absorption and
heat, instead of an electrically
powered mechanical
compressor, to move the
refrigerant from the low-
pressure side to the high-
pressure side. This system use
refrigerants that other
substances are attracted to
and absorb.
Evaporative Cooling
o Unlike the mechanical-
compression and absorption
refrigeration system discussed
above, evaporative cooling
doesn’t use the traditional
refrigeration cycle. Instead,
these units often called swamp
coolers, cool warmer outdoor air
by blowing it over water-soaked
pads as it enters the home.
Evaporative coolers reduces air
temperature by 15˚to 40˚F but
are best suited for dry climates.
Thermoelectric
Refrigeration
o Thermoelectric refrigeration
systems are unique from the three
other types of refrigeration in that
no refrigerant or water is used.
These systems use an electric
current and a thermocouple.
o A thermocouple is made up of two
different metal wires that are
united at both ends. Insulation
separates the rest of the wires
from each other. When the current
is directed on the thermocouple,
one end will become hot and the
other cool.
