LISTENING
It is the queen of the four skills as it helps students to
speak, communicate with others and learn vocabulary
and grammar. It is the first receptive language skill.

HOW TO IMPROVE?

• Engage with sounds and words.


• Ask for clarification.
• Listen to radio, TV and other media.
• Do mental repetition.
• Requires an active participation than passive
reception.
• Make consistent eye contact.
• Adopt an open posture.
SPEAKING
It is the skill that give us the ability to communicate effectively. It
allows the speaker to convey his message in a passionate,
thoughtful, and convincing manner.

• Most obvious skill.


• Most interactive skill.
• Develops inter personal skill.
• Productive skill in the oral mode.
HOW TO IMPROVE?
• Find an English speaking conversation partner.
• Record the conversation practice
• Read aloud
• Do regular practice.
• Expand your vocabulary
• Learn the natural flow of English.
• Think in English.
• Practice in public speaking events.
• Retell a story in English.
READING
It is the ability to understand the written text and
to integrate with what the reader already knows.

• Improves knowledge of language


structure.
• Develops vocabulary.
• Informs writing and writing style.
• Fosters the imagination.
• Enhances the understanding of the
text.
HOW TO IMPROVE?
• Use a good dictionary.
• Set reading goals.
• Read English newspapers daily.
• Read out stories, interesting instances to your
family members and friends.
• Decide the purpose of reading.
• Take notes on your reading.
• Identify the key words and concepts.
WRITING
It is the specific ability which help writers to put their
thoughts into words in a meaningful form.

• Increases knowledge, creativity and


imagination.
• Allows to communicate with clarity
and ease.
• Improves vocabulary.
• Major method of assessment.
• Essential skill for exams.
HOW TO IMPROVE?
• Start with a mind map.
• Create an outline.
• Familiarize yourself with different text types.
• Practice a specific writing technique
• Be aware of grammar and its rules
• Write something everyday
• Read more to develop a good writing style.
• Invest in an editing tool.
