This flag design originally came to be the flag in 1999.
Before 1999 the flag looked like the photo on the left.
The flag you see today is on the right. The red dot on
the flag represents the sun and the white background
represents honesty.

Japan's culture is modern. Influenced from Asia, Europe
and North America. Japan's culture has changed over
the millennia. Japan's culture developed very fast
during the Heian era. Art, poetry and prose were
becoming more popular. At this time the Samurai
warrior class developed. Samurai lords raided the
government 1185 and ruled until 1869
CUISINE
▸ Japanese cuisine encompasses the regional and
traditional foods of Japan which have developed
through the years of political, economic and social
changes.
▸ Sushi is the main dish of Japan
GOVERNMENT
▸ The government in Japan is a constitutional
monarchy which means the power of the emperor is
restricted and is assigned to other political parties.
The leader of the government is the prime minister. It
was founded in 1947. The headquarters of the
government are in Toyko. It is appointed by the
emperor

Kimigayo is the oldest
national anthem having been
written 1000 years ago. The
anthem is also the shortest
anthem. In schools in Japan
in the students sing the
national anthem and kneel in
front of the flag

▸ The national animal is the
Japanese macaque also
nicknamed the snow
monkey. This animal got
its name because it lives
in very cold climate. This
animal is the most
northern living non-
human primate to exist. It
can live up to 27 years.
The scientific name is the
Macaca Fuscata. This
animals family is the
Cercopithecidae.
