Measles

Measles is an acute infection caused by the rubeola virus,

a single-stranded, negative-sense, enveloped RNA virus of
the genus Morbillivirus within the family Paramyxoviridae.
It is highly contagious and usually seen in children.
It has an incubation period of 10=17 days and has a round
shape with minute protrudions.
I will go through the causes, symptoms and the
treatment in order to neutralizes the prior said
symptoms.
Causes and Symptoms
Measles is caused by the prior mentioned virus which replicates in the nose and throat of an
infected child or adult. Then, when someone with measles coughs, sneezes, or talks, infected
droplets spray into the air, where other people may inhale them. The infected droplets can also
remain on surfaces for up to 3 hours where they remain contagious and active. Its contagious
rating is around 90%.

Risk factors include :

 Being Unvaccinated
 Travelling in an infected region
 Vitamin A deficiency
Due to recent high vaccination rates, measles hasn’t been widespread for more than a decade.
The symptoms appear around 10=14 days after exposure to the virus. Signs and symptoms
usually include:
 Fever
 Dry cough
 Runny nose
 Sore throat
 Inflamed eyes(also known as conjuctivitis)
 Koplik's Spots, Minute white spots with bluish-white centers on a red background found inside
Treatment and Medication:
There's no specific treatment for an
established measles infection. However,
some measures can be taken to protect
vulnerable individuals who have been
exposed.
• Post-exposure Vaccination
• Immune serum globulin
Medications include but are not limited to
Acetaminophen(Tylenol), ibuprofen and
naproxen.
