REPRODUCTION IN

ANIMALS
IN THIS PRESENTATION WE WILL LEARN ABOUT
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION AND CLONING
WHAT IS REPRODUCTION?
 Literally reproduction is made up of two words
‘re’ and ‘production’.
 It is the process by which living organisms produce
new organisms similar to themselves.
 NOTE: Here it is not necessary that parents and
offsprings will be exactly similar.
 Reproduction is mainly of two types:-
I) Asexual reproduction
II) Sexual reproduction
In this presentation we will learn about asexual
reproduction
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION
 Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction by
which offspring arise from a single parent, and inherit
the genes of that parent only.
 The term “daughter” is used for an organism
reproduced in this way.
 There is no variation between the parent and
daughter.
 Examples: Plants Lower organism
onion Amoeba
potato Euglena and many more…
In this presentation we will discuss about two methods
of asexual reproduction:- Budding and Binary fission.
BUDDING

 Budding is a form of asexual reproduction in

which a new organism develops from an
outgrowth or bud due to cell division at one
particular site.
 Thenew organism remains attached as it grows,
separating from the parent organism only when it
is mature, leaving behind scar tissue.
 Examlple: hydra
BINARY FISSION

 Binaryfission ("division in half") is a kind of

asexual reproduction.
 Itis the most common form of reproduction in
prokaryotes and unicellular organisms.
 In binary fission, the fully grown parent cell splits
into two halves , producing two new cells.
 After replicating it's genetic material, the parent
cell divides into two equal sized daughter cells.
 Example: Bacteria, Amoeba and Paramecium
CLONING

 Cloning is the process by which an entire organism

is reproduced from a single cell taken from the
parent organisms.
 Herethe DNA of both the organisms is just the
same and in a genetically identical manner.
 This means that the cloned animal is an exact
duplicate in every way of his parent.
 Nowadays with the advancement of biological
technology, it is now possible to artificially
recreate the process of cloning.
