Factory Act 1948
• This act was passed in 1948

• To regulate labour employment in the factories

• The act is the labour welfare legislation in


factories which would benefit the workers

• The law came into force on April 1, 1949


Factory Act 1948
Objectives
Contains provision to health, safety and welfare
1. To protect the labour employed in factories from
unduly long hours of manual labour or bodily
strain
2. to provide health and sanitary conditions
3. to take precaution for the safety of workers
4. to maintain effective supervision by the state
government of inspecting staff for factories
Objectives of Safety Act

•It regulates and properly maintains safe


working conditions in factories
• It regulates and properly maintains various
safety, health and welfare activities in the
factories
• It regulates and properly maintains working
hours of workers, employment of women and
young persons, weekly holiday etc..
EMPLOYEE’S STATE INSURANCE ACT 1948

• Passed to provide welfare facilities to industrial workers through one


agency

• It is compulsory and contributory scheme.

• The ESIS provides medical benefits in the form of medical attendance


,treatment , drugs and injection to insured people and members of
their families

• It is applicable for factories employing more than 20 workers

• section 11 deals with cleanliness
( every factory should be kept free from effluvia(a by-product
especially in the form of waste), drain, privy etc…. Accumulation of
dirt and refuse should be removed daily by sweeping. Roofs , side
walls, top of staircase as to be painted)
