 MODE

 Mode of a set of data is simply the value that appears most

often in the set of data.

Example:
The following are the scores of eight students in Math
Quiz: 5, 9, 13, 11, 8, 7, 4, and 9. Determine the mode
score.

4 , 5 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 9 , 11 , 13

is the mode score of the eight students who took
the Math Quiz.

8, 11, 9, 14, 9, 15, 18, 6, 9, 10
The Mode is 9
6, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18

24, 15, 18, 20, 18, 22, 24, 26, 18, 26, 24
The Modes are

OF
GROUPED DATA
MODE OF GROUPED DATA

 Mode is referred to as the most frequently

occurring value in a given set of data.

 In grouped distribution, the class interval where

the value with the highest frequency is the modal
class.
REMEMBER:
 To find the mode of a grouped data, use the formula:

𝑑1
𝑀𝑜=𝐿𝑚𝑜 +
𝑑 1+𝑑 2(𝑖 )

Where:
Lmo = the lower boundary of the modal class
d1 = difference between the frequency of the modal
class and that of the frequency before the modal
class
d2 = difference between the frequency of the modal
class and that of the frequency after the modal
class
= the size of class interval
Illustrative Example:
 Consider the distribution of the weekly allowance
of the Mobile Legends players in Ili.
Weekly Allowance (CI) Number of Players (f)
P 1,240 – 1259 8
1,260 – 1279 11
1,280 – 1299 15
1,300 – 1319 24
1,320 – 1339 31
1,340 – 1359 12
1,360 – 1379 6
1,380 - 1399 4

 What is the highest frequency in the distribution located?

 What is the modal class in the distribution?
