The Wheeler Model
• Tyler’ model is in a form of
straight line or linear model.
• Wheeler has converted Tyler’s
original ideas into cyclic form.
2.
1.
Selection of
Aims, Goals
and
learning
Objectives experience
s

Wheeler (1978) believes

that curriculum decision
making can start from any
point and can come back to
any of the points. 3.
5.
Selection of
Evaluation
content

4.
Organisatio
n and
integration
of learning
experiences
Wheeler contends that :
• Aims should be discussed as behaviours
referring to the end product of learning
which yields the ultimate goals.

• Aims are formulated from the general to

the specific in curriculum planning.

• Content is distinguished from the

learning experiences which determine
that content.
Strengths of Cyclical
Model
• Provide logical sequence
• Able to cope with changing
circumstances
• Provide flexibility (and relevant to
school situations and more
appropriate to curriculum
development by teachers)
Weaknesses of cyclical
model
• It is difficult to locate
• It is not different from
objective model since it
adopts logical sequence
• It takes time to undertake
an effective situational
analysis
