Indirect Questions

• Objective: Different ways of asking questions


to someone you don’t know. It’s more polite.
• Notice: (At the airport)
• Wh-question with Be: Where is the duty free?
• Indirect question: Could you tell me where the
duty free is?
• You can use: Could you tell me/ Do you know/
Can you tell me.
• Wh-question with do:
• Direct : What time does the bank open?
• Indirect: Do you know what time the bank
opens

• Wh-question with can:


• Where can I get a good snack?
• Can you tell me where I can get a good snack?
• Notice that the ‘secret’ is transforming the
question into an affirmative sentence.
• What time is the concert?
• Could you tell me what time the concert is?
• Pay attention to the tense verb. Examples
above are Simple present.
