Instructional Design (ID)

• ID can be conceptualised as part art and part science.

• It relies on a systematic process; instructional design models and principles (Wang, Brown & Ng,
2012).
• ID has been closely associated with the growth of technology and technological inputs in
educational set-ups.
• The field has also relied on progress of learning theories to sustain the integration of technology
in education.
• Therefore people who work in the field of education and who design learning experiences (such
as lecturers, learning resource designers, textbook authors and teachers)
The ADDIE model

• The most commonly known of them is the ADDIE model.

• It is regarded as the foundational element in the field of ID (Bichelmeyer,
2004).
• The model can be represented in a cascading manner, each step following
the other or as an iterative process having evaluation at its core
