THE POWER OF OUR

MINDS
What is the Mind
Mind - Greek nous

Strong's defines nous as "the intellect, the mind in thought, feeling or will; the
understanding.“

our minds are like "reins" between our inner man (i.e., our spirit) and what is
manifested out in our outer man (i.e., our souls).

.
The Mind
• In other words, our minds not only include the conception (or the creation) of an idea in our hearts,
but also its fulfillment in action in our lives. This is what makes 1 Corinthians 2:16 such a fantastic
Scripture! "We have the Mind of Christ.“

• The mind is an intangible spiritual entity, and only the Word of God can shed the best light on it

Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and

effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged [a]sword, penetrating as far as the division of the [b]soul
and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our
nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.
• The conscious mind communicates to the outside world and
the inner self through speech, pictures, writing, physical
movement, and thought.
• The subconscious mind, on the other hand, is in charge of our
recent memories, and is in continuous contact with the
resources of the unconscious mind.
The Mind of Unbelief
• One dominant usage of "mind" (in certain contexts or with appropriate
modifiers) is to describe a way of thinking or entire understanding that stands
in opposition to God (Romans 1:28 and Ephesians 4:17-18 )

• The "mind" of the one who does not know God is in a state of futility and
debasement, and by implication this state, though reversible, exists because of
refusal to acknowledge God or at a time prior to coming to that Knowledge
that brings renewal.
• This set of the mind is hostile to God (see Rom 8:7 )

• Paul indicates that this condition is the result of "the god of this age, " who has
blinded the minds of unbelievers ( 2 Cor 4:4 ;
Renewal of the Mind.
•  The mind must be renewed in order to conform to or apprehend
the will of God

• Romans 12:2 : "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of the
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God's will is.“
• Ephesians 4:23 "be made new in the attitude of your minds"
The Mind of Belief
• There is, then, a "renewed" or Christian mind: "But we have the
mind of Christ" ( 1 Cor 2:16 ).
• Here the regenerate mind or mind of the Christian is described
in terms of a correct understanding of the things and plans of
God. It is a worldview in synchronization with God's will
